Adsorption based technologies have emerged and can mitigate the impact of heavy metal discharge into the environment. In a recent study modified Beech wood able to absorb 95% of copper from a solution. This looks like a promising technology of the future. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Around the world rapid industrialization has led to uncontrolled pollutant discharge into the natural aquatic environment, raising a call for concern. Traditional metal remediation methods have had some serious issues (Vitas et al,2018). Processes such as chemical precipitation have been limited to, high manufacturing costs and extensive maintenance. Nonetheless, adsorption based technologies are a strong and cost-effective candidate. Beech wood boasts a “porous and anisotropic structure” (Ibid) and has astonishing filtration paired with adsorption properties (Ibid). Chemically modifying beech wood with carboxylic acid transforms it into a biosorbent. A mixture of materials used to separate materials out of liquids. The material developed an affinity towards copper ions. In a recent experiment, the beechwood sorbent was able to remove 95% of copper from low concentration solutions (Ibid).  <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Wood sponge has multiple uses currently and for future applications, it will be useful for cleaning up oil spillages, heavy metals from water and for the dehydration of crude oil.</div><div>However, its uses may be limited on a large scale and it still has downsides such as deforestation destroying habitats and sight pollution.</div>]]></description>
