Of Mice and Men represents a world of labor and a very poor financial upbringing. Having company can easily bring happiness for one another. With such circumstances, it would be probable for people to travel together. Slim states that " 'Maybe ever'body in the whole damn world is scared of each other' ". (34) There is a lingering fear of betrayal, because one might manipulate or use someone for own personal to gain their "own land". " 'Just like heaven. Ever'body wants a little piece of lan'. Nobody gets to heaven, and nobody get's no land.' "(72)  Furthermore The Boss, Curley and Slim are unable to recognize friendship as they've all been so isolated, that they don't even know what it is. "We travel together," said George coldly. "Oh, so it's that way." George was tense and motionless. "Yea, it's that way." (25). Finally,  Crook states that " 'A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody. . . I'll tell ya a guy gets too lonely an' he gets sick' " (71) and additionally George also stated " 'I seen guys that go around alone. It ain't good and they get mean.'
