Organic foods are healthier due to the reduced amount of pesticides and fertilisers used when growing the products. In addition an article by Kis Gyorene (2006) suggests that organic foods contain higher amounts of antioxidants and vitamins such as vitamin C. In addition, a study by Mei et al. (2017) shows that extracts from strawberries and beetroot juice from organic plants have properties that help to inhibit cancer growth, in comparison to conventionally grown plants, further supporting that organic foods are healthier. However, their article also suggests that those buying organic food tend to choose more fruit and vegetables and tend to be more physically active, therefore this could suggest that although organic foods have shown to be healthier, those that buy them are generally healthier which could cause some bias in the results.
