They also learned prayers, the alphabet, knitting and sewing. Today there are girls in schools with boys and they learn the same amount of education as boys and girls don't have to go to special schools like s Dame school. Third nonwhite children in the colonial time did not learn the same as all the other girls and boys the nonwhite children had an unorganized education. Some slave children were taught to read and write by their parents who had learned these skills. Williamsburg did have two schools for these nonwhites one for African Americans and the other was for Native Americans. Both schools prepared boys to become priests in the Anglican church. But many boys did not attend this school.
