I will plan to do image hooks, the three reads, annotation strategies, and likely a vocabulary web for literacy or the start of my ELA unit. I will share the materials with the other ELA teachers and encourage the 7th grade science and Social studies teachers to incorporate them in their teaching.

Will try the three read activity, and another shot at vocabulary tree. I will continue to use stop and jots and image hooks. Lastly, would like to reconvene with the HS influencer and contemplate how we can move forward with the lab classroom.

In the future, I am going to incorporate the Image Hook and 3 Reading Strategy. I am going to take back these strategies and work closely with my co-teachers to differentiate them. Then, I am going to invite my colleagues to observe me implement them. These practices are going to strengthen my school's literacy instruction and performance across the content areas.

I plan on doing the 3 read strategy with my students. I will use the model strategy when I turn key these routines with my colleagues. I think this will be the best strategy based on our school's PD programming.

I will definitely incorporate vocabulary webs and vocabulary trees in my planning and practice. I know I've been lacking in my vocabulary instruction. I also want to make sure that my stop & jots are not only used as pre-reading strategies, but throughout my readings. That now makes absolutely more sense to me after seeing how it's been used in other classrooms. I also want to revisit the Three Reads protocol since been 2 years since I used it in my classroom. I have not focused much on poetry and I think this structure will lend itself to those deeper conversations and understansings with the kids. I will turnkey these strategies to the 6th & 8th grade teachers by not waiting until I feel I've mastered these strategies. I want feedback from peers to help me create my best practices as I go, not after I think I already know what I"m doing.

I plan to continue implementing the strategies learned in Routine 1, focusing on fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. From Routine 2, the vocabulary web, 3-Read strategy, and 4-corner discussions will become integral tools in my teaching practice, used in tandem to enhance reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. My goal is to share these effective practices with the middle school team and advocate for their integration across the curriculum, creating a more consistent and impactful learning experience for all students in our school. I believe these strategies have the potential to become key components of our instructional approach, empowering students to become more active and engaged learners.

Emily: I used to think the strategies would not fit into a 45 minute period, but now I've seen plenty of examples of lessons which do manage to link together 3-4 strategies in a single lesson or "routine".

The idea of routines are something I'm super familiar with -- I was taught them as "lesson arcs", but whatever. I'm eager to try out the routine 2 strategies on the book I'm teaching in 8th grade.

I've already talked to admin about supporting my department in lab-classroom intervisitiations. Her reply was, and I quote, "yes! full steam ahead". So ok.

I am feeling less annoyed by the sense of all the work I've done with the new visions middle school literacy handbook / literacy routines being flushed away. The reality is, these strategies ARE many of them in imitation of that work, or aligned with it, whatever. They all focus on the same thing: providing access, equity, and entry into cognitive work. So I'm on board.

I will incorporate the 3 Reads protocol in my upcoming lesson. I plan to incorporate this routine in the current work we are doing on POV changing/developing in the novel and how the author conveys this. I would also love to try the vocab web, annotation and 3 reads together similarly to what we did today. I plan to share the material as well as some snapshots of students work supplied by other teachers. I will plan to meet with my High school influencer and discuss a plan to move forward with the Lab Classroom

One of the routines I want to incorporate is vocabulary web and write. I am excited to find ways to improve student's vocabulary and get them to write about the book. In regards to the turnkey strategies, I like to replicate and model. I feel I learn best when I understand how one person views a routine and how I can incorporate it into my lesson plan/classroom. Also, seeing it in action can inspire others to teach.

I liked seeing the 3 Reads in such a structured and focused format. I've been introduced to 3 Reads before and always disliked it and I found it hard to maintain student focus through it. However, I think with such an intentional breakdown it can be much more successful. I think this could be a successful strategy across domains as well.

I will be sure to meet with Ms Olsen to strategize around how to incorporate everything into our dept meetings and about how to reach out to AP Ginsburg as well as Prin Dennerstein.
