I have always felt that relevance was key to good behavior management. If students can become a stakeholder in an assignment, then they will be much more engaged and less likely to misbehave. They will take pride in their work, be willing to show and share it, and work much harder at it. In the book he mentions, "Make It Cool to Care." Well only good things can happen when children care about what they are learning.

My students know that coming to school is their job; doing their best is rewarded just like a paycheck when they are older. Thus, they "earn" points that equate to a daily paycheck. This money may be saved and/or earned on a weekly basis. Additionally, the cross-curriculum, hands-on activities, themed projects, virtual field trips and experiments in our classroom and our shared classroom (for science) assist in engaged, relevant instruction.
