I think these violations occur due to a multitude of reasons such as convenience & cost, lack of awareness, and peer influence. Software or resources that require a subscription are often times expensive, so the free/illegal versions are easier for students. Moreover, many students don't fully understand the magnitude of copyright laws or the consequences of plagiarism. Lastly, seeing fellow peers using pirated apps normalizes this type of behavior.
