Chapter 9: (This chapter is told from the perspective of Dr. Lanyon.) Dr. Lanyon has recieved a letter from Dr. Jekyll who uses their long friendship to ask him for a tough favor. The letter asks for Dr. Lanyon to break into his laboratory for potions that his servant will retrieve at midnight. Dr. Lanyon does what is asked. Mr. Hyde shows up in as the messenger and once he consumes the potion, it transforms him into Dr. Jekyll. This shocks Dr. Lanyon because he is a man of science.

Chapter 10: (Told from the perspective of Henry Jekyll.) Dr. Jekyll tells how he likes to be nice and respectable but also wants to be mean and wicked. Dr. Jekyll managed to find out how to split those two natures into two different people. The respectful person is Dr. Henry Jekyll and the evil person is Edward Hyde. The potion allows him to freely transform between the two. Dr. Jekyll attempts to make separate living arrangements for Mr. Hyde. Two months before the murder of Sid Danvers Carew, he went to sleep as Dr. Jekyll and woke up as Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll feels like he must choose one persona and chooses to live as Dr. Jekyll for two months. He eventually breaks the streak when he becomes Mr. Hyde again and he kills Sid Danvers Carew. After the incident, he runs to his lab to resume being Dr. Jekyll. One day when Dr. Jekyll is in a park, he has evil thoughts which makes him turn into Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde writes to Dr. Lanyon in hopes for him to help him transform back into Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Lanyon does what he is asked and is horrified when Mr. Hyde turns back into Dr. Jekyll. The next day, Dr. Jekyll once again turns back into Mr. Hyde. He runs to the laboratory where he consumes two more potions to turn him back into normal. Six hours later he transforms again. Dr. Jekyll is getting weaker while Mr. Hyde is getting stronger. He runs out of potions and sends his servants all over town looking for a certain salt. The doctor is running out of time and writes this confession as one the last things to do. He claims when he puts down the pen, it is the end of Dr. Jekyll.
