In the poem "Still I Rise" the message the writer is trying to convey is that even when someone says or does something to hurt her she will still rise and not let it bother her. For example she states "Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise" This shows that people bring her down but she continues to stand tall and ignore it.

In the poem it says that "you may shoot me with your words." Obviously she has felt pain so the title, "If I Rise" is perfect for what she has gone through in her life.
