In the beginning of the story we really got to know the main characters personality before any of the fantasy elements came into play. Second because of this we got a great description of the setting that continued throughout the story along with the great development of the children. The themes and development of the characters made this book easy to relate to. I believe seeing the chidden/ sisters develop throughout the story made this book a great fantasy novel because a lot of the time I wasn't even focused on the fantasy aspects more on the development of the charters and the conflict that was happening !

This book also reminds me of the I Survived book series that most 4th grade teachers had us read when I was in 4th grade. This book falls into the supernatural category of fantasy due to the Ghost throughout the story. The Ghost's Grave had a few of the key elements for a good fantasy book, but not all of them. The book first started out grounded in reality before moving to the fantastical part which helped buy into the story and actually connect to the characters. Another aspect that helped me connect to the characters was that each one had emotions, even the ghost Willie, this helped me relate to them because I have experienced these emotions and can bring that background knowledge to the story and help me relate to it especially since it is a fantasy book and I would not be able to experience this first hand. This is established before the book moves into the magical world of the cupboards. The author also uses vivid descriptions though each cupboard to make it more believable to the reader and the events that happen in the cupboard each have realistic and magical elements. I think this book would be great for the age because it is definitely a fantasy book that will expand their imagination even more, as they get older. However, it also has somewhat of a complex plot. The third-grade age will be able to comprehend the story yet allow their imagination to make it their own. 
 
My novel is a good fantasy piece because of many reasons. First, the story starts off realistic. The main character, Josh, is excited about making the summer baseball team. However, he then figures out he will have to move away because his mother’s boyfriend got a new job in India. The story shifts to fantasy when Josh gets to India and starts meeting a wide variety of unrealistic characters, who play a large role in the plot. Another reason this story is a good piece of fantasy is because of the way Kehret describes the setting. The story takes place in a graveyard and the author does a really good job at describing what the graveyard is like using reader’s senses.

The reason this book is such a great piece of fantasy is because of the relationship between the ghost and Josh. In the story, most of characters are neither living or human, which adds to the fantasy of the story. Josh becomes curious about the mystery of what had happened with the ghost, and this leads to an engaging thriller and a spooky setting. The concepts discussed in the book about Ivan's life, as a gorilla held in captivity, and his thoughts of humans and their interaction can be complex and difficult to understand for lower grade levels. This book can be considered an animal fantasy since there is Ivan, the talking gorilla, and other talking animals. This book definitely checks all of the boxes for a fantasy novel. Ivan, the main character, shows many emotions throughout the book. He shares his deep feelings about humans and his life that allows the reader to understand how an animal in captivity might feel. It contains a plot that follows Ivan's journey from the Big Top Mall to the zoo. This fantasy is also believable.
