8/16/19 - We continued discussing the layers of the earth through our Avocado lab. The students were required to stick a straw into the Avocado to the seed, remove the straw and squeeze out the 'layers' from their dig. The various colors of the Avocado flesh represent the 'physical' layers of the Earth. Attached are the notes put in the INB on page 13 and 14. The students are to learn the material in their INB for a quiz on Wednesday of next week.

An updated study guide was provided yesterday as well, being more in line w/ the test to be given next Wednesday, Oct. 23. We began working on the 'Volcanoes and Plate Tectonics' packet today, with the emphasis on the convergent boundary and the major geological events that result from this boundary's movement. The students are responsible for answering #'s 1-10 of the study guide and learn the vocabulary words listed on pg. 55 and 69 in their interactive notebook. The study guide has been tweaked, so your student should already have the answers from the previous study guide provided.

The strongest erosional force is running water vs. ice or gravity. We will focus on working with our windmills on Friday. There will be 10 days of instructional time left when we return from Thanksgiving Break. Map testing will take place Monday Dec. 2, and our Go Fish Field trip is on Tuesday, Dec. 3rd. We effectively have 8 days of instruction till the end of the semester. The students will have a final exam in every class. The final exam is worth 10% of their grade. We are in the final lap for this semester. We will review Earth's waters and the water cycle when we return, with a test over this material Dec. 13th. It will be extremely helpful if you would encourage your student to do the assigned homework when we return on Dec. 2nd. Have an awesome Thanksgiving Break!!

12/20/19 - Please have your student become familiar w/ vocabulary.com over the Christmas break. I'm still getting answers that 'I didn't understand the question' or' I didn't understand the wording of the question'. Usually the 'word' in question is a synonym of what is being taught in class. Please also have your student purchase a student dictionary, so they may look up words in class that they may not know, or understand. The dictionary will be helpful in Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. Our students have a true deficit in their lack of knowledge of vocabulary. Happy Holidays!

2/3/29 - The Atmosphere Foldable will be due on Wednesday, Feb 5. The rubric is set up to grade 4 layers of Earth's atmosphere. The info in your student's INB includes a 5th layer. The documentation on the 5th layer will be bonus points. I explained what artifacts need to be drawn on the back of the foldable, with the order of the layers in place w/ how they exist in Earth's atmosphere. We also discussed being a dependent learner vs. an independent learner. Please have your student explain what those 2 terms mean to them in relationship to their success in school from this point forward.

2/11/20 - We are working on a CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) piece on Global Warming. The learning target is 'I can construct an argument evaluating contributions to the rise in global temperatures over the last century.' We used the attached video to obtain data points for the student to note whether the global temperature has increased or decreased over the years. The data points note the increase or decrease every 10-12 years, beginning w/ 1901. The 'Claim' is provided for the students. They are to use their data points to construct their argument in the form of 3 paragraphs. The 1st paragraph will use the 1st 4 data points. The 2nd paragraph will use the 2nd 4 data points, and the 3rd paragraph the remaining data points. We will discuss the reasoning paragraph in class. Your student is welcome to complete the entire piece at home. This assignment will due for a quiz grade on Thursday for Science, and due Friday as a quiz grade for Language Arts. Claim - The Earth’s temperature has changed between 1901-2016. Human activity and the use of fossil fuels have caused the Earth to warm at a faster pace than in previous centuries. The burning of fossil fuels release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide has increased due to a change in transportation, with families having more than one form of transportation. Industrialization has been a contributing factor to Earth’s temperature change.

3/26/2020 - Good morning. The following codes are to the Google classroom for those students who were not at school on the 13th. When you sign onto Google Classroom there is a + sign in the upper right-hand corner. When you click on it it will ask for the code to join the class. 1st period - 7r5gb7v 2nd period - 3s2uyem 5th period - zkoclzi 6th period - hirmza6 I'm still learning how to navigate through Google Classroom.

Good Morning, Good Afternoon, or Good Evening Team 6-A,

Whatever time you find yourself reading through this, we want all of you to know we miss you and love each one of you (parents and students). We can't bear that we are missing the rest of the school year with all of you. These are uncertain times for many of us in this new educational learning situation we find ourselves. Parents are learning how to be homeschool facilitators, students are learning how to do distance learning, and teachers are learning how to do their jobs from a far. However, we will persevere through this and come out on the other side of it stronger than before. We will all have new appreciations for our normal lives when it resumes…and do we ever look forward to that day. With this being said, we have some information to share with you before next week begins.

Beginning Monday, April 6th, Team 6-A will have the expectations for our students to continue checking padlet, logging into their SSO account to access their google classroom. These will be the platforms where the students will find their tasks for the day/week. If additional help is needed to access the google classroom, please refer to the attachment for those instructions. Teachers will post to both platforms to hopefully keep students very aware what their tasks are. We do recommend that each family set the school day schedule that best fits your family’s needs. Most educators recommend two to three hours a day for homeschooling with at least one hour a day of outside recreational time…following all social distancing requirements. During the school day, the teachers on our team will be available Monday-Thursday 9:00-11:00 and 12:30-2:30 by email with Friday being a planning day for us to plan the next week’s lessons. Please reach out to us through email and will we then decide how best to address your needs. If email will work, we will respond in that manner, but if we think a phone call would work best, we will reach out in that way. In the future, there may be some opportunities for Zoom meetings, but as of now our team has not decided if we will use that form of communication with the students. If a teacher makes that decision, she will be in communication with her students at that time. Below, you will find some specifics from each teacher.

Missing Our Students,

Rhonda Tucker, Math

Phyllis Grane, Science

Alissa Baker, Social Studies

Bellsennes Veargis, Language Arts

Language Arts:

All Language Arts tasks will be posted on Google Classrooms, with some announcements being made on Padlet. Please check both. I will post a short quiz to verify attendance and ability to access Google classrooms which must be completed by Sunday, April 5th. At this point, there will be one or two grades per week, as needed. If this changes, I will certainly notify you.

Math:

All math tasks will be posted on Google Classroom with some announcements being made on Padlet. Please check both. On Google Classroom, I will post short instructional videos, practice items, additional worksheets if necessary, and one assessment for the week. The assessment will need to be completed after all instructional videos and practice items have been completed. At this point, there will only be one grade per week. If this changes, I will certainly notify you guys about the change.

Science:

All Science tasks will be posted on Google Classroom with some announcements being made on Padlet and/or Edmodo. Please check both. On Google Classroom, worksheets and content videos will be posted, and an assessment for the week. The assessment will need to be completed after all content videos and practice items have been completed. One or two grades will be posted per week. The weekly instructions will state what assignments will be graded.

Social Studies:

We will be using Google Classroom and Padlet as our base of communication and learning. Each Sunday evening I will post your assignments on Google Classroom, and they will be due every Sat evening. This gives you 6 days to go at your pace in completing your assignments. I will post powerpoints, articles, videos, maps, and

illustrations that will assist you in completing your assignments. After assignments are submitted, there will be an assessment the following week. In addition to Google Classroom, you will also need to refer to Padlet as well for any other announcements. If you have any questions, please email me or contact me through Google Classroom.

4/6/2020 - Good afternoon all. I've gotten some feedback on taking the 'Air Masses and Fronts' quiz, that some of you are unable to re-take it. I have posted a 'Fronts' test on USA TestPrep to take the place of this quiz. Again, you have your notes to use while taking the test, so everyone should pass it without a problem.
