As director of surgical oncology at Harrington Physician Services and Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, Massachusetts, he introduced gamma-guided parathyroid surgery and laparoscopic colectomies to the hospital. Dr. Dan Avradopoulos also advanced overall care within the system as a member of the Cancer Committee and the Surgical Quality Assurance Committee, in which roles he oversaw all cases and drove efforts to reach and surpass national care benchmarks. Dr. Dan Avradopoulos joined Harrington Physician Services after a 12-year tenure as director of surgical oncology and gastrointestinal oncology with Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center. While there, he created and led a new multidisciplinary breast cancer clinic, work for which he received the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Local Hero award. Instrumental in the review and renewal of Saint Vincent Hospital's cancer care accreditation from the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Dan Avradopoulos placed hospital patients in clinical trials and laid the groundwork for the introduction of several new surgical techniques, including radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors.
