Progress meeting with student (Aged 19 on a Level 3 Fashion and Textiles course)

VISION - Student said their main goal was to pass the course and achieve at least a Merit. They chose fashion because they loved art in high school and really enjoyed the crossover with fashion and wanted to explore that further.

EFFORT - Student sees themselves putting in the effort with independent study. They miss having that someone to ask questions to at home about the work but does aim to start note-taking in class and when working from home and will bring any questions to the tutor.

SYSTEMS - Student says that they are a generally organised person when it comes to planning tasks and how they present work. The 50/50 learning due to Covid has put a spanner in the works and can therefore make things confusing. They have said they need to learn how to prioritise certain tasks but knows that they can always check in with the tutor or teaching assistant if they are unsure about anything.

PRACTICE - Student says that they are a motivated person and does have goals that they want to achieve. Say they will "go the extra mile" and will focus on this terms's project.

ATTITUDE - Student will respond to a setback and will seek to change the problem. They know the importance of keeping constant communication with their tutor and staying on the same page. Student was late for today's lesson by 30 minutes due to being stuck in traffic, instead of letting the tutor know, they text a classmate instead who did not relay the message. The student now knows to always contact the tutor in the first instance if it happens again in the future.

While talking with tutors I have learned that we do not have traditional baseline assessments.

Assessments are made in the school usually at the pre-enrolment stage. Through application forms (Personal Statement and Grades) and Interviews. This year this has not possible and therefore the prep for learning has leaned into this.

Once the students start formative assessments take place to confirm the baseline assessment.

With the first few weeks we use this to make adjustments to the level the students are working at.

Progress meeting w/Level 2 nail care student in GCSE maths and English

I was in a GCSE maths class with L (age 16) just once -- but am timetabled to be a TA in it for now. She was initially very shy and would hide her paper as I walked by, but eventually ended up quietly sliding it toward me to look over.

VISION:

L is studying to be a nail technician. She is also interested in studying Hair and Beauty but is unsure about whether that’s an option.

She is aiming for a Grade 4 in maths and English.

She has a three-year plan at college during which she aims to complete all her assignments on time.

EFFORT:

When asked how much effort she is investing and plans to invest in her courses, L quickly responded “100% percent”. She says she is completing her online study on the day it is assigned, and when she is unable to, she does it that night.

SYSTEMS:

L says she has a specific study space at home and tries to do her online work in the morning. She says she does her online learning on the day it is timetabled.

PRACTICE:

L says she is "quite" concentrated and is happy with the feedback she has been receiving, finding that it is neither too little nor too much. When asked about whether she reflects on her learning and performance, she recognised that she needs to do more reflecting so that she can gain as much as possible from her journey.

ATTITUDE:

L says her confidence is “ok” and she is comfortable with its level. When asked about her emotional control, she identified herself as being primarily calm. She says she often handles stress well and by going on long walks, which she considers to help her slight depression. She says she usually responds to criticism by trying to achieve what is being asked of her. She approach toward growth is to “normally just do” what she has to to develop.
