The range for what defines a disability is a lot larger than I thought. It's interesting to me how many more people are disabled than I thought.

I didn't realize that the lack of access to healthcare for people with disabilities was so prevalent. The statistic that 1 in 4 adults with disabilities do not have a usual healthcare provider surprised me.

What surprised me is the linkage between health problems or habits such as heart disease and smoking and people with disabilities. This leads me to believe that certain disabilities can be caused by self-inflicted harm such as smoking.

10.4% of those with disabilities have heart diseases in comparison to only 3.7% of those without disabilities. This may come from a lack of healthcare access for those who have disabilities or damaging attitudes that further propagate the discrimination of disabled people in the medical world. This surprised me that there is such a difference in the numbers.

I was interested in the correlation between disability and other health problems. It is both surprising and also makes sense considering that disabled adults in the United States are easily excluded from support systems that keep one in good health. It also likely is related to financial issues that stem from disability.

People with disabilities live with an increased risk of different healthcare problems like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes with an increased likelihood that they will start smoking compared to people without disabilities

It stood out to me that people with disabilities are more likely at risk of obesity, more tempted to smoke, and increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. It made me curious if already having these factors can lead to disabilities, or if having a disability only can increase these things. I also found it concerning that many people with a disability do not get proper health care. - Annika

I find interesting that over 1/4th of the US population has some form of a disability. I always thought it was much less.

I was surprised that 1 in 4 adults have disabilities that they cannot care for because of healthcare costs. I was not aware of how common disabilities are in adults throughout the country. Are disabilities more common in certain areas of the country? Are there better parts of the country for treatment of disabilities?

I found it interesting that people living with disabilities have an increased risk to many different health problems. I also learned that an extremely large amount of the population lives with a disability, more than 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. live with one.

I was genuinely surprised at the staggering rate of people with disabilities who don't have the proper healthcare that they need. The fact that 1 in 4 don't have a usual provider or that 1 in 6 arent receiving routine checkups. With the complexity of their health being disabled its surprising to me the lack of care they can access.
