of grief. She was born in 1926 in Switzerland and she studied life and death. She knew this was her passion when she visited a concentration camp during her time working as a relief worker within post-war Poland. While she was there she saw butterflies carved on the walls, she said about the sight: "It was incomprehensible to me the thousands of children going into the gas chamber and this is what they leave behind, a butterfly. This was really the beginning."
She proceeded to teach about death and dying at university, during this time she constructed several interviews with terminally ill people and this is how she came up with the theory.

The theory itself consists of 5 feelings that were dominant within these patients:
Denial (difficulty feeling it is real)
Anger (reality sinking in)
Bargaining (thinking or doing things to change reality)
Depression (isolation/preparing to accept)
Acceptance (acknowledgment)

One thing to note is that all of these come from feelings of fear of change as grief is not only felt during bereavement but alot of loss throughout life.

The model itself is not a step by step guide and these feelings can be felt in any order.  Elizabeth Kubler-Ross herself said in her final interview before she died in 2004 that her feelings were "angry, angry, angry".

I wanted to research into decay and forms of preservation so I decided to visit Oxford as it had objects preserved from around the world within Pitts Rivers which was connected to the natural history museum for convenience. 
One of the main objects I visited the Pitts Rivers museum for were the Shruken Heads as it is a more unique case of preservation, however these were removed from the musuem during 2020 due to the language being used by vistors towards the Shaur culture. This brings up a deeper issue that I admit I knew before I visited but definitely made the visit uncomfortable. Most (if not all) of the items Pitts Rivers possess were stolen and the language they used to use before the changes made in 2020 were incredibly dehumanizing toward the communities and cultures that the objects belong to. Thankfully, the musuem acknowledged these mistakes and showed how they corrected their language and are starting to give back items to the countries that should claim them. Although Pitts Rivers has a long way to go in the way of decolonization I think they are going about it in the right way.

Sufjan  is totally transparent singing about his mothers absence throughout a majority of his life. The album discovers themes of childhood, loneliness, faith and rebirth. He makes various mentions of biblical and mythological references.
My personal favourite song from this album is "Fourth of July" and started a conversation with my mother about how unique the experience of losing a parent is. It is an incredibly beautiful and loving song about loss with several terms of endearment and comforting names such as "my little hawk" and "my firefly". However, as I was creating the book I felt as if it was a poor representation of the project, feelings and artworks I had created within the project. It will allow the people within the exhibition to react to the work as they wish with various pieces of paper that at first will tell a narrative that is chronologically correct. Though as the viewers interact with the loose pages and look through them they may become jumbled. The fan was found in John Boskovich's lovers apartment after his death from AIDs in the October of 1995. He had lost everything expect what was deemed "worthless" as Earabinos family had cleaned out the place including Boskovich's own possession. An entire persons existence and relationship erased like several others stories during the AIDs crisis.

Boskovich view the cut outs as restoring Earabinos breath hence a gesture to preserve Earabinos lite. My favourite work of hers is her most famous work 'Pi** Flowers' which are casts created by the snow melting when Chadwick and her husband urinated in the snow. The tall structures (often referred to be as being phallic) are Chadwick's casts as she was closer to the ground. These feelings are felt throughout society and Grayson Perry discovers the set traditions of Sulawesi's own cultural events when dealing with death. Most prominent the length of time the body is kept in the house, which has no specific time limit and is left until the family is ready (in this specific case around a year). He then compares this with the general loss of large tradition with the UK instead exploring the unique ways people have taken to understand their emotions. 

Within the show he added his own work to a hand made family shrine wall and held a funeral for a living man. Both of these were bittersweet and very contrasting. A boy whos life was taken unexpectedly far too soon and a man who had been coming to terms with his own death for 8 years. Both of these bought out the important lesson of treasuring the memories you do have. He is best known for his light instillations. His art is about mourning, death and memory. He often created stories within his work, he did this by including photos and objects from him and his families history and combined them with similar material that did not belong to him or his family. He called this "individual mythology" and said it was a way for him to show his own history as evidence of the collective memory of all humans. 

His most popular work is titled 'The Reserve of the Dead Swiss', this work includes 42 photos squared together in groups. This way of organised dehumanizes the people in a sense looking at them as a group instead pf individuals which in itself says a lot about how people remember. Each photo is individually lit giving the viewer a sense of torture and persecutions. He found the photos in the obituaries section of a Swiss newspaper. Often the images in these sections made people feel uneasy and Boltanski used this to his advantage. Each gallery we vistited had its own aesthetic, the portrait gallery being my favourite architecturally due to the lighting, steady staircases, windows and engravings on the ceiling and walls. 
The most enchanting exhibition I saw on this trip though was Madeleine Wood's. The large scale cardboard illustration that caught the viewers eye. However, what I enjoyed most was looking through her work in the form of several books. I had seen artists sketchbooks in galleries before but never in the form of an interactive way.
