The first few weeks can be really challenging before you find people you get along with, but your people are out there! Cabrillo is an incredibly welcome and open environment. Check out clubs that interest you, form a study group with people in your classes, even ask professors for advice (I’ve met many great people by professors introducing me to other students). You’re not alone.

I knew so little going into my first semester at Cabrillo. I strongly believe that the reason I got my engineering internship, scholarships, and all the other opportunities that came into my life was because of the people around me. The engineering faculty, Carlos Figueroa (Physics Instructor), and Christina Ortega are all amazing and just want to help! Make sure you use your resources because that can make a huge difference in your academic endeavors at Cabrillo.

When you first realize how many classes STEM majors need to take it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. “I’m gonna be here forever!” Just remember everyone else is in the same boat, and that most stem majors need 3-5 years (or more!) to complete all the classes. The quality of education at Cabrillo is amazing, and the semesters will fly by.

I wished I had known about this program since the first day I became a Cabrillo Student. When I heard about this program I thought just about the physical disability, and I was totally wrong. After 4 years of being at Cabirllo, I realized I had a learning disability. I get so anxious while taking tests. If I had known before about this program, I could have gotten so much much help and I could have done a better job in all my classes. My point is that there is nothing wrong by asking for help. Please do it.
-Rosa

Remember, being a stem major is not an easy thing to do. If it would easy, everyone would be able to do it. We are super humans, we have to handle a lot of things to accomplish our goals/majors. And remember, ask for help. Ask a lot of questions to Christina about your major, classes or any concern you have. She has an answer for everything. Email or talk to Kelli, she's the most approachable person to talk to. She'll understand all the struggles you've been through and she'll try to give you and advise to help you out. And finally talk to JoAan, she will understand and guide you through your engineering major in a way that you could have never imaged. She will find a way to match your engineering classes with your valuable time.
-Rosa
