  • Finny wears a pink shirt when shirt and uses a tie as a belt when he went to the Headmaster’s tea.
  • The boys jumped from the tree.
  • Finny played “blitzball”.
  • Phineas broke the school swimming record. 
  • They showed the 🤬 room, where they smoke.
  • Finny told Gene that “he didn´t need to study”.
  • Gene and Phineas went to the beach.
  • When Finny broke his leg, they took him to the school´s infirmary.
  • Then, as soon as Gene was about to tell the truth with tree fall, a teacher came in the room (so he wasn´t able to speak to his friend).
  • They had a school break (holidays) and Gene visited Finny (he forgot to take him a present). 
  • Brinker, Chet and Gene collected some fruits for the war (apples).
  • Gene calls Finny by phone.

  • Here, Gene is a new student in Devon´s school.

  • When Gene and Finny went to the beach, there were no boys who gazed at Phineas. Also the climate wasn´t cloudy and gray. Moreover, in the book it wasn´t specified the fact that they camped with a bonfire. 
  • Brinker and gene met with the presence of Finny.
  • During the tree fall, there were no witnesses. 
  • Finny didn’t have a sister. 
  • Gene never dress like his friend (after the infirmary).
  • There were no soldiers training for the war with trains when Brinker, Chet and Gene collected the fruits. In addition, Leper got excited for the war (the first time) with the story of the old man.
  • In the book they never mentioned that Brinker wore glasses.
  • Cliff Quackembush didn´t fight with Gene (at the lake).
  • In the movie Leper owned a snail´s house.

    -Finny and Gene's character protrayals.
    -The overall message of the book
    I believe that the movie did a great job in portraying Gene and Finny as well as give off the overall message, even though some details were changed.

    Things that were changed:
    -Leper is given more relevance
    -There is no flashfoward, meaning that adult Gene is not present in the movie. 
    -Gene expressed more emotion when Finny died. In the book e¡he just feels empty and numb.
    -Finny's sister appears, which is not present in the book.
    -Finny is in a school chorus.
    -I believe they also portrayed Brinker's character differently. In the book he is way more outspoken and ruthless.

    -Finny fell from the tree and the stairs that later on caused his death.
    -Finny breaks the school's swimming record and then one his leg is broken he trains Gene for the olympics.
    -They play Blitzball
    -War and enlisting are mentioned throughout the movie.

    And even if the movie got this right, there were some differences:
    -There is no flashback nor flash forward. 
    -Gene does not receive a letter at the winter carnival, instead he gets it from Leper.
    -Finny didn't have a sister.
    -Gene was more emotional when Finny died, whereas in the book he showed no emotion at all. 
    -There was no funeral scene
