Fun Fact: I do still teach quite a bit but it's not math anymore! I teach karate 4 or more times a week to students aged 5-99! It's one of my true passions and I have been doing this since I was 9 years old so for 27 years!

With 20 years of experience in education, including the last 5 years at this wonderful company, I serve as an Assessment Team Lead at OpenEd. Fun Fact: I absolutely love building furniture and even tearing things down in my house just so I can put them back together. Every trip to Home Depot feels like Christmas morning, even if I'm just looking, and nothing beats the smell of fresh sawdust.

I live in Utah with my husband and our two teenage kids. I love traveling with my family, cheering my kids on in all of their activities, and spending time in the sunshine and the water. Intro: I have completed my A.A. Degree and multiple years of university with a focus in English. I spent the past school year as a substitute teacher at my hometown's elementary school (where my dad worked as a Kindergarten teacher for 20 years). With a teacher dad, daycare mom, and ever-expanding family, I have spent most of my life around children in some capacity. I have learned more about children from children than I ever have in a class or seminar, and will continue to do so. I am always excited to learn something new from a student!

Fun Fact: I enjoy reading, traveling, and fly fishing in my beautiful Montana home. I am always wanting to try new things and get my hands into whatever project I can think of (recently that has been knitting socks). My favorite thing to do is spend time with my husband and my clingy boy cat, Smaug.

I live in St. George, Utah, with my husband and our 9-month-old son. I grew up in Idaho and was homeschooled during COVID through a program similar to OpenEd. I enjoyed it so much that I chose to continue homeschooling, which gives me a unique perspective as I work with families today.

I've always loved working with children. I started nannying for a family with four young children when I was 14, and last year I had the opportunity to work closely with OpenEd students. I'm excited to continue supporting students and families throughout the assessment process this year.

Fun Fact: My family business holds the record for the largest Smash Brothers (Mario) Tournament held in the State of Iowa!

I recently retired, after 38 years with the Orange County Public Schools system in Orlando, Florida where I taught Elementary students in grades 2 - 5, worked in gifted education and was a testing coordinator throughout my years. I have always enjoyed the organization, attention to detail and teamwork that go into making testing a successful experience for students and teachers, so I'm excited to bring that experience to my new role in OpenEd.

I now live in Jacksonville, Florida, where I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren, staying active traveling, reading and now just learning Mahjong!

Fun Fact: I fell in love with Disney World on my very first visit in 1972. I moved from Massachusetts to Orlando in 1985 and spent 38 wonderful years as an educator there! I have relocated to Jacksonville to be closer to my family. My Disney love is still going strong, in fact I now work for RunDisney, fulfilling a lifelong dream of working for the Mouse.

I am looking forward to my next journey with OpenEd and am excited to be here!

Outside of work, I’m a family‑guy who enjoys the mountains, fresh air, and all things Disney. Whether it’s Disneyland, Disney World, or just talking about favorite characters, my family and I are all in.

Fun Fact: I have been to 49/50 US states. If all goes as planned I will visit #50 (Oregon) in October.

I have recently been a testing proctor for the Texas State Bar Examiners. So far, I have proctored 2Texas Bar exams. I felt like this opportunity would be a good fit and flexible enough to allow me to still enjoy retirement and the grandkids.

Fun fact: I lived in a state where you can actually stand in two states at once! Many songs have been written about Texarkana and the ability to stand in Texas and Arkansas all at once!

I am a born and raised Montana teacher and librarian. I retired after 30 wonderful years teaching at the middle school level, and now I proctor tests both online for OpenEd and in person at Touro University Medical College. 

I am delighted to support your family’s assessment experiences so they are smooth and successful. 

When I am not working, I enjoy writing, spending time with my family, and gardening.

Fun fact: I am developing fungi-growing skills to assist my daughter in building a mushroom farm. So far, we have grown mushrooms both indoors and outdoors, and as expected, oyster mushrooms are the easiest for beginners like us to grow. Did you know the largest organism on the planet is the “Humongous Fungus” in the Blue Mountains of Oregon?

I'm Jessica Funchess from Houston, Texas. I have over 13+ years of experience working with K-12 children in both the private and public school settings. I was a mentor teacher when I taught middle schoolers. During my time as a mentor teacher, my mentee was proudly offered a promotion!
