In preschool, we began our vision board project with a circle time discussion about dreams. We talked about what a dream means—something we want to do, learn, or become that makes us feel happy and proud. The children shared their ideas, and together we explored how everyone’s dreams can look different.

As we enjoyed our snack, we watched an inspiring video titled Imagine the Impossible, which encouraged us to think big and believe in ourselves. Afterwards, we welcomed a special guest, Ms. Cabrera, who read My First Vision Board book. The story beautifully explained how to dream, set goals, and visualize the things we want to achieve.

After reading, I met with each child individually to talk about their dreams. At first, the question “What are your dreams?” felt a bit abstract for preschoolers, so I modified it to make it more age-appropriate: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” From there, we built our class vision board titled “The Future Starts Here.” Each child’s photo and name were added, along with what they hope to be one day—everything from teachers and doctors to pilots and firefighters.

As a class, we discussed how achieving big dreams starts with learning small but important skills—like sharing, communicating, working in centers, and never giving up. The children then cut out pictures representing things they want to learn this year: letters, numbers, shapes, and even swimming or making new friends.

Our vision board reflects both who we hope to become and the little steps we’re taking each day to get there. The children beamed with pride as they saw their dreams come together on one big board—a beautiful reminder that the future truly starts here.

The classroom was buzzing with energy as they shared their ideas, dreams, and goals for the future. It was inspiring to see how thoughtful and creative they were while thinking about who they are, who they want to become, and what steps they might take to get there.

This activity was more than just cutting and pasting—it helped them reflect on their values, set intentions, and start thinking about the choices that shape their paths. And this activity will keep growing...

Kindergarten Vision Board Project: Building Early Goal-Setting Skills

This week, our kindergarten students participated in a meaningful project centered around goal setting and self-expression. Ms. Cabrera visited our classrooms to share a story about vision boards and how they can help us picture our goals and dreams for the future.

After the read-aloud, we had thoughtful discussions about what it means to have goals, things we want to learn, try, or achieve, and how we can work toward them step by step. Then, students created their own vision boards using printed pictures and words that represented their goals, interests, and dreams.

The process encouraged reflection, creativity, and conversation about perseverance and confidence. Even at a young age, students begin to see that setting goals gives them direction and motivation, and that their actions can help bring those goals to life.

Vision boards are a great way to foster a growth mindset and connect academic learning with personal development. This activity also supported social-emotional learning by helping students identify what inspires them, what they’re passionate about, and what kind of learner or person they want to be.

This week, our 5B students took an exciting leap from vision boards to goal-setting! After exploring their dreams and aspirations, they worked to define one specific goal, outline detailed action steps, and plan regular check-ins with accountability partners.

Yesterday, we discovered that while vision boards help us see where we want to go, goals give us the map to get there. Students revisited their boards and transformed one of their dreams into a SMART Goal - making it Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Soon, our classroom walls will proudly display these SMART Goals as daily reminders of the journey ahead. We look forward to revisiting them often, celebrating progress, and supporting each other in turning our visions into reality for the 2025–2026 school year!

Each student reflected on key questions like:

-What do I love most about music?

-If I could do anything in music, what would it be?

-What instruments do I want to learn?

-What inspires me musically?

-What kind of music do I want to make?

-What do I want to improve upon this year in music?

The room was full of creativity, passion, and imagination! From wanting to sing with more confidence and improve their vocal range, to learning how to read music and understand rhythms and notes, students shared personal goals that show just how motivated and passionate they are.

Students were inspired by their dreams of becoming music producers and performers, to learning piano, drums and guitar. Many also expressed a strong desire to write their own songs, perform on stage, and grow their musical knowledge.

I'm looking forward to help bring these goals to life.

As the academic year progresses, we will revisit the vision board to celebrate achievements, recognize growth, and, when appropriate, set new goals—ensuring that our learning journey remains purposeful, dynamic, and inspiring.

Each student expressed their dreams, goals, and wishes for this school year — sharing what they hope to learn, achieve, and improve. It was inspiring to see how confidently they talked about their strengths and the areas they want to grow in.

Together, we brought those dreams to life by creating both a class vision board and individual goal boards. The students showed great enthusiasm, creativity, and motivation while setting their personal and academic goals.

I am so proud of their work and excited to see how they make their visions come true throughout the year!

In Art class, students will be creating Art-Focused Vision Boards that highlight their personal goals and creative aspirations for the year. Whether it’s improving their drawing skills, experimenting with new materials, entering an art contest, or simply expressing themselves more confidently through art — each student will visualize what success in Art looks like for them.

Vision Boards empower students to dream big, stay inspired, and take intentional steps toward growth. By creating drawings that represent their artistic goals, students will transform abstract dreams into visual motivation — a daily reminder that creativity, focus, and persistence turn vision into reality.
