In order to achieve this aim DP Biology syllabus is designed in a way that students have many opportunities to investigate different aspects of applications of modern science and technology in human societies, to reflect on benefits and limitations of modern sciences. For example, in cell biology unit students are asked to research of ethical implication of stem cells researches.

When discussing an aspect of application of modern science students from different cultures would approach it differently. Some Asian students would be more excited with the technological part of an invention, and then other students, with a religious background, would be worried about the ethical aspects of the same innovation. Science has grown due to an international efforts. Scientists of many nationalities contributed to the development of scientific knowledge. There are many examples of exchanging of ideas and information across borders. One good example of scientists collaboration is the Human Genome Project.
