         <title>Growth Mindset &amp; The Adolescent Learner</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I think the mindset of students makes a large difference in their learning experience. If we help our students have a growth mindset they are more likely to be successful in the real world. This learning science helped many things make sense to me. In my own personal life I have seen a difference when I am trying to either learn at all times and at all costs or if I have the mentality that I just need to look smart and all times. A difference is made in what I am learning as well as absorbing the information. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>In the Principle 4 video, when she was talking about the simulation of balance on a horse, I had light bulbs going off all over the place! I connected to this theory more than I expected. I have ridden horses since I was three and have always been able to balance without issues. I have also played a variety of instruments from a very young age and seemed to learn things quickly compared to my siblings and those around me. When I walked into sophomore English, I had so much going on and no clear introduction. I was easily overwhelmed. Knowing that I usually catch on to things fairly quickly, I was confused. However, after learning about this learning science principle, I can now understand why I had such a hard time in this class.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Principles of Learning</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I think that it is so interesting how everyone learns so differently and has different types of learning that benefit them more. I definitely agree that just because you may excel in one learning type more than the other it does not always mean that is the best way for you to learn. This really ties in to having a growth mindset. You can expand your ability to learn by appreciating and experimenting with different ways to learn. Maybe some subjects are more understandable in a visual standpoint but others may need different tactics to be understood. Learning is all about understanding that and testing out different methods. Sometimes I find myself restricting myself to certain techniques simply because they worked in the past. It is very important to expand your learning methods in different situations. </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <title>Retaining New Information</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>When learning about the student's process of retaining new information, it made so much more sense! I remember from elementary school always learning better from songs. Whether it was the multiples of 3, the 50 states song, or the first 100 digits of pi. By teaching these new concepts with a song or by chunking it with previous knowledge, it will stick to the kids better than just a new lesson going in one ear and out the other. I also enjoyed how the method of explaining the new idea makes it easier for the child. Like in the video, explaining not just what a chair is but how it works. This was so interesting to learn and will definitely help teachers get to the students better. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Students build there learning by things they already know</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>In the first principle it talks about how learners will understand and comprehend ideas based on concepts and understanding that that already have. For Example I work at a scout camp every summer and one of the hardest things to get kids excited to learn about is knots. The way we do this is by explaining in terms and ideas the kids know. This may take form by coming up with analogies in explain how to tie the knot, some of them being internet memes. For another example of this is finding what someone knows a lot about already and then explain the new concept or idea by drawing parallels between the two topics. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I liked the Cognitive Load Theory the most because I found it the most interesting out of all the other topics. I liked how she had mentioned the balance on a horse. I grew up on a farm and have ridden horses for quite a few years. However, when starting to ride a horse my balance was not the best and I would be very scared. Once you get it through its super easy to ride a horse and balance doesn't even cross your mind, except when you are competing. After learning about this theory and all of the other things in my life it is crazy to see how balancing on a horse was hard for me but a sport like soccer came so easy for me and this theory explained it perfectly.</p>]]></description>
