In the classroom diversify learning curriculum and lessons such as:

Diverse reading materials, books and articles.

For example: Incorporating multicultural perspectives with the art subject in the classroom studying different cultural arts.

"Esperanza Rising" by Pam Muñoz Ryan, a book based on a Mexican-American family.

"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie, this story is being narrated through a student in a Native American high school.

“A sixth grade teacher takes her class to a nature reserve for a science-based hike, believing the reserve has accommodations for her new student, who uses crutches due to cerebral palsy. When the class arrives they learn that the reserve's accommodations are underwhelming.” (Gorski,. 2018)

Diverse Resources such as literature, music, art from different cultural backgrounds. 

Having students share about their cultural experiences and knowledge to their peers to gain cultural knowledge. 

“To gain a better understanding of the backgrounds of students, teachers must invest time and energy into developing trusting relationships with both students and their families. This allows teachers to better align their classroom instruction and expectations with those of the family and the relevant cultural backgrounds.” (Fuhrman, 2020.)

Auditory Strategies: such as audio recordings.

Kinesthetics Activities: hands-on learning activities, experiments, and stimulations. 

As educators creating more personalized learning plans for students to help with students' specific needs and goals. Also incorporating project-based learning with activities where students can explore different learning topics.

An essential teaching style that could be adapted in the classroom to help diverse needs of learners would be small group instruction and learning stations, these activities and lessons would be tailored to the learning needs of the students in the classroom.

Encourage collaboration among each other: creating group projects and activities to get students to work together and learn from one another. 

Build relationships: as educators getting to know students, their families, and the communities to get a better understanding of their cultural background.

Bring representation into the classroom: display posters, artwork in the classroom that represent cultures and ethnicities. 

Practice cultural sensitivity: teaching and helping students be aware and mindful of cultural sensitivities. 

Educators can create an accessible learning environment for students. 

Teach students to have respectful language in and out of the classroom. 

Decorating the classroom with cultural posters, and artwork that represent the diverse cultures of the students in the classroom. 

Flexible or group seating, along with visual support, or accessible materials.

The classroom should promote a learning environment that is respectful, encourages participation, fosters a sense of belonging for each student, and where students feel valued and seen in the classroom.

“Encourage your students to articulate their narratives, starting with learning the stories of individuals in their community.” (Tavangar, 2017.)

Family nights- where families and students can participate and showcase their cultural experiences, themes for those family nights can be a talent show, cooking/baking off each family can share their favorite cultural dishes to share with other families in the classroom. 

Collaborating with local community organizations such as libraries, community centers, to offer resources and programs to help support families, and families are able to become familiar with local community organizations within their community.

School beautification: educators can organize a school wide clean up, painting projects, or even gardening initiatives to help positively enhance the school environment, students will learn the responsibility of caring for their school. 

Creating a community mural: educators with their classes can design or paint a mural on a public space such as a park, community center, senior center, or even at a school to demonstrate and display the communities culture or a positive message, the project can involve students, teachers, local artists, and community members coming together.

Supportive student learning at home: educators can provide parents with practical tips and strategies to help support their child's learning at home and outside of the classroom. 

Weekly newsletters to parents: teachers can create fun and engaging weekly newsletters to help keep their students' families informed of what will be taught in the classroom that week to keep parents and families involved.
