Is a developmental disability that typically appears during the first 3 years of life. 

IDEA, 2004 
 A developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, generally evident before age 3, that adversely affects a child's performance. 

Other characteristics:
Engagement in repetitive activities and stereotype movements, resistance o environmental change or change in daily routines, and unusual responses to sensory experiences. 

Asperger Syndrome:
is the next most common PDD. With normal IQ however have social interactions with others. 

Rett Syndrome:
Child must have normal prenatal and perinatal development, normal psychomotor development for the first 5 months, and normal head circumference at birth.

Childhood Disintegrative Disorder:
A child must have a normal pattern development through age 2. Then must demonstrate a regression of two skills. 

Pervasive Developmental disorder:
When delays are exhibited in social interaction or communication or if stereotypical behaviors develop and the child does not meet the criteria for another PDD.
