Elkins' testimony about blood transfusions addressed reports from Corpus Christi in the wake of her death that her father was upset with the transfusions due to his religious beliefs. Quintanilla is a Jehovah's Witness, whose beliefs oppose such treatment.
In 1989 she finished high school through the American School, a correspondence school for artists, and enrolled at Pacific Western University in business administration correspondence courses.
Selena's childhood was pretty much all about music. She joined the family band, Selena Y Los Dino's, when she was 10 years old. The band started out as just playing weddings, clubs, etc. Selena learned to sing in Spanish so the family band could resonate better in the Latino community.
