· Each group will be given a number of ‘facts’ about Bristol that will need to be checked through some basic online research that you’ll carry out after the session. i.e. you need to establish whether these ‘facts’ are, in fact, true or false! You can carry out this research* any time after the Monday session and before the follow up fact-checking feedback session;
· An online fact-checking feedback session will take place on Weds 23rd Sep at 11am (like the Monday session, this can be accessed via the Collaborate Ultra area of Blackboard programme page). This will your chance to feedback what you found out and whether the ‘facts’ you were given turned out to be true or false!

*How you organise your online research is up to you but perhaps you can divide up the ‘facts’ between you, do some individual research, then share what you found with each other so you can consolidate your findings before the feedback session!
Obviously, you’ll need to share contact details, e.g. your UWE email addresses, so you can communicate with each other!

We draw a lot on Bristol in terms of exploring media and cultural practices and contexts in teaching and learning on this programme so we hope this task will start to ignite your interest in starting to reflect more deeply about the social and cultural environments that we occupy and experience.

In keeping with this, we hope you’ll also consider how the activity connects with an increased societal focus on misinformation, especially communications content that circulates through social and news media, (E.g. “the era of Fake News!”), which has prompted a rise in fact-checking activities and resources designed to establish the truthfulness of claims and stated facts and information!

Nb. "Brizzle" is local parlance for Bristol!
