Convergent and Divergent are two different types of thinking/brainstorming. Divergent is when somebody thinks creatively and outside the box. This doesn't mean you have to think about how effective the idea is. It occurs in a spontaneous way of thinking. Convergent Thinking is when the solution of a problem can be concluded by logical explanation and is more realistic. Before that lesson I didn't know anything about the differences of the two ways of thinking.

To understand the connection between creativity, Critical Thinking and Innovation I had to come up with a creative solution that would resolve my partner's problem. I came up with some solutions by using the 50 ideas in 5 minutes thinking process. This made me use my divergent thinking and helped me come up with many possible innovative ideas. This made me go outside my comfort zone because I had never used divergent thinking before. It really helped me think of different ideas for my solution. To find the right solution I had to find the problem of my partner Oliver. I did this by interviewing him and asking key details about what he hated in the holidays. After that, I put myself in their shoes and built an empathy map that consisted of how Oliver felt about wearing masks, the constraints and pains. Building an empathy map helped me grow confident in empathizing with people and their issues. I had never done it before and had made me more aware about how there are different issues. Using this knowledge I use my divergent thinking and came up with many different ideas. In the end I came up with a comfy helmet to replace Oliver issue which was a stuffy uncomfortable mask. Pitching it to my partner helped me because it gave me more confidence and helped me understand what I had to talk about.

The Empathy Map helped me understand what the Glenunga community's problem was in these covid times. A big issue for the school was that the school needed around 2000 masks that also needed to be environmentally sustainable. Looking from a future perspective we had to think of how to reduce masks from being littered. The constraints were important to understand as we tried not to make the solution to expensive for the school.

But if the school require people to pay more for fees they would most likely be able to afford to do it. This also gave a reality check and made us more self aware about why it is very expensive. It gave me more understanding of how masks really cost.

My group worked well and decided on the problem by brainstorming on what society's biggest issues were. From the 50 ideas in 5 minutes exercise, we came up with a problem directly for the school. We then choose three of the best and resonable problems from our ideas. Lastly we narrowed it down to one which was how to solve incorrect mask disposal. As a group we brainstormed together and came up with around a set amount each. We then worked out which one we needed to get rid of one by one. In the planning process we all split up the work and finished the insight statement, empathy map and cost analysis. Individally I helped the group by coming up with the image of the solution, saying my part in the video, editing the video and writing the insight statement. The overall solution was mostly good except for the cost of making it real. The solution is realistic and would make it easier for students to get a mask or throw it in the bin because there would be many placed around the school. The overall quality of the video could have been improved. The quality and sound could be better by using a camera instead of a phone for example. The video should have been filmed in another area where the sun couldn't ruin the lighting. We could have been more creativity by adding some edit into our video and maybe a catch phrase to capture the audience attention. From watching other videos I've learnt to be more exciting and energetic in future videos I make because it capture the audience attention. In our next assignment I will apply my improvements by speaking with confidence and energy in front of the people a the expo.

So far in the first two lesson in this week we have decided that our problem is the young society vaping. We found out that many children in high school are most affected because they think it is a cool thing to do and also get addicted to the nicotine which can harm brain development. We found out that the consequences of vaping affect memory, concentration, learning, self-control, attention, and mood. From researching this we realised that only the nicotine was the bad part in vapes. Our solution would be to make a a similar vape but have something healthier but just as addicting as the nicotine.

This week Anton, Jeff and I started working on answering the key research questions, we worked through some together and learnt that we needed to interview some people around our age on their reasons for vaping. To do this we made a survey that we sent to some people and I asked some of my friends that vaped why they did it and what influenced them. The feedback that we got was mostly because all of their friends do it and fit in. This is where we decided to solidify our solution as a harmless vape. This is because they will still be able to "fit in" with the people around them but in a harmless way. From this, I learned that a lot of teenagers actions are influenced from peer pressure even though it may not always be the right choice.

Our product was developed from just a healthy vape to then branching it out to having future business partners, supply Guilt Free Vapes to different cities. We looked more in depth using our critical thinking skill which we developed through the 4 weeks and found out what to use to make it healthier. From our idea we also created a survey and made our vape non disposable to satisfy our customers. One of our strengths was answering question from the sharks and students. I think we have a good response and accepted some of the feedback we received. I think one area for improvement was the "problem" part. We could have showed more stats and simply explained better on why vapes are bad, more surveys questions and lastly send it more people. I think we collaborated well and distributed the work load well. We all had equal amounts to say during the pitch and collaborated in making the survey and researching. Anton created the survey, slides and some parts of the information. Jeff wrote the Problem and information about Guilt Free Vapes. I did the market research, description of a normal vape and our Future Goals.

In week 7 we prepared for our EXPO by creating creative posters, 1 minute speech and a prototype. I learned how to make an attractive poster using different colours to bring in more people for our stall. I learn't how to make a short speech which gets to the point. I learned that I had to tell the problem briefly, explain the solution and lastly say the cost analysis.

From this experience, I have gained the ability to speak confidently in front of many people and my ability to present something has improved because I know how to structure a short speech. This helped me understand how to persuade and inform an audience about a product. Working with people helped me reduce stress as I knew that I had my partners to help with the work. This was the 1st time I gained 10 Sace credits aswell and gave me a better understanding to how Research Project will be in Year 11. I gained a different perspective of how to use communication. I learned how to distribute the EXPO workload. We used people's strengths and made Anton do the creative part such as the posters, Jeff did the 1-minute speech and I wrote what was in the poster and business cards.

I developed my critical thinking by thinking deeply about a world problem that relates to my age. I also thought critically about what solution would work for people my age. We used creativity by bringing the parts of a dead vape to the EXPO to attract more people which worked perfectly as many people asked what it was. We made the posters more attractive and appealing by putting bright colours as the background. Collaboration has helped me get an idea of how to run an organized group. We communicated through a groupchats via Snapchat and. We also shared group documents and slideshows to help overcome the communication obstacle.

I can use the skills developed in Action Project in other areas of my life such as getting a job. I can find a problem, solution and user research in the Research Project in the future. My communication skills was developed the most throughout Action Project and is also needed everywhere in the world. This will help me talk to people I have never met before and will help in an interview.

At first whenever we faced a problem I thought we were going to fail and never solve it. Using my persistence I kept thinking of different solutions to solve vaping problems in our school. Finally, as I had help from my partners we collaborated and found out we just needed to replace the bad chemicals in it. A huge challenge was finding a prototype of our product because vapes are illegal in Australia. But to overcome this we brought in a dead vape and took off the cover to display the battery and vape juice parts.

I am a person who doesn’t usually venture out and try new things just in case I’m wrong and due to my shyness. Action Project was the opposite and is about selecting a topic which you have no knowledge about for my case vapes. At the beginning I found it difficult to understand the concepts and information about vapes but slowly with some of the questions that we had to answer such as the user and market research I found myself thinking outside the box. This has developed my curiosity and stage fright and after all this I can see how far I’ve come.

Personally I’ve learned how to pitch a proper product in front of an audience and part of an exhibition which has improved my public speaking ability. This has helped me understand the business pathway and being successful comes from solving a big ongoing problem in the world for example teenagers vaping.
