In Chains, Madam Lockton shows hypocrisy in the beginning of the novel when Isabel and Ruth were just sold to her. When Ruth makes a small noise and Isabel takes the blame, Madam slaps Isabel as punishment, but continues to talk herself in front of Isabel and Ruth. In Isabel's mind she says "better me than Ruth." over and over again.

In both forms of hypocrisy, an instructor commands for someone to not do something, while they continue to do it themselves. In Chains, Madam tells Isabel and Ruth to stay quiet, but continues talking herself. In reality, parents tell their teenage children not to text while they're driving, but text and drive in front of their kids. This is how hypocrisy is shown in both Chains, and real life situations.
