Mirror: My mirror occurs through the relationship of Rashad and his friends on page 11. Rashad and his friends give each other and lot of 🤬 and like to make fun of each other. It is always in a joking manner and they always respond with a comeback. This is very similar to me and my friends. My dad always says that if you can't give each other 🤬, then you aren't true friends.

Window: My window moment occurs on page 300 where Rashad's dad has a whole "talk" memorized with how to comply with the police and for nothing bad to happen. They have to live in fear of the police and are scared every time they have an encounter because they never know what will happen or if they will die. It is very sad and something that I have never had to experience.

I have never been in a situation like that and I hope I never will. So reading this made me think on how it seems like every week or so we see something like this happen and many think how 'How bad can it be' or 'Maybe he was a criminal' which isn't bad at all but this book does give a story to many of those incidences.

Mirror Moment: I had a mirror moment with Quinn when he realizes he should spend more time with his little brother. Quinn sees how absent he has been from Willy's activities. So Quinn goes to Willy's soccer game. "In fact go see your brother's game. It means more to him if you're there than me anyway, so go see his game" (Reynolds 70). Sometimes I am unable to go to my siblings activities, but other times i should go and support them, because I care about them.
Window Moment: I don't believe I have been in a situation where I was a middle man between friends. Quinn is loyal to the Guzzo's because they were like a second family to him while growing up. However Quinn also has a special bond with his teammates on the basketball team. So when Guzzo and the Teammates start to fight on the court, Quinn is stuck in the middle. After reading about this I have had a different look on my friends. I am very grateful that we can settle a disagreement just by talking it out. Reading about friends who don't know what to believe anymore changed the way I look at friendship. (Reynolds 221)

Mirror: I have had to deal with lots of controversy on my soccer team just like Quinn does with his basketball team. Being a captain I have had to cool down players who have been mad at another teammate for whatever reason. If the players are mad they will play poorly and continue to hurt the team. (Pages 136-140)

Window: My windows moment was the police brutality that occurred between Paul and Rashad to create the main conflict of the book. I have never personally seen or experienced any type of police brutality in my life. Sure I’ve heard lots about it but I’ve never gotten a description of what it is like.

Mirror: The mirror moment for me in this book was when rashad was in the hospital and his parents bring a pastor for prayers. Then the pastor says to rashad "everything happened for reason"(reylond 80). I relate to this because when something bad happens to me I tell myself the words the pastor said.

Window: The window moment for me in this book was when rashad was explaining what happened between him and paul and and he say "shoved me through the door and slammed me to the ground"(Reylond 22). This moment in the book I have seen videos of and heard on the news but never experienced it or been in the situation

Mirror: When Quinn is struggling over whos side to choose, and Paul is trying to make Quinn come to his side, even though Quinn believes he trusts Rashad’s side of the story (Reynolds & Kiely 210). This is easily relatable because I often don’t know what to do in stressful situations.

Window: When the book talks about how Rashad’s father says that if you go with the law then everything will be fine (Reynolds & Kiely 300). This, to me, feels like something people should not have to worry about, yet people still do.

I know howe hard it can be to try and focus on something when you have something very significant happening somewhere else in your life. (136)

Window Moment: I can see how such a controversy could completely split the school and how that could happen to a certain extent at ONW although I would hope that doesn’t happen.

Mirror: my mirror is where the video is spreading through the school because a lot of that stuff can happen at onw if any event happens (Reynolds 123).

Window: my window is where rashads dad talks to Rashad about what to do when you get pulled over and if you do it right nothing bad will happen yet Rashad was brutally beaten. Luckily I do not think it has happened around the ONW area but all of the boys in the book were scared if a cop just looked at them (Reynolds 300).
