Home isn't always a place, it can be something that really feels heart warming to you. Also I'm a Filipina too! I got so hungry when I saw the Halo Halo dessert haha. -Theiara

The Filipino culture shines especially in the piece called "Home". I think using foods to display Filipino culture is genius because food is the perfect example of what makes up Filipino culture. I also really appreciate bringing real world issues within your art. I feel like each piece is completely unique from each other and truly displays your skills as an artist.

The way you blend and shade brings a lot of texture into your artwork, especially with the graphite shading. Your use of white space is also very pleasing to see, as backgrounds tend to be very difficult to fill in, but you did so without taking away from the main center of focus. You have a good eye.

The themes you were able to communicate through your piece "Comfort Piece," I could relate heavily with, as someone whose connection with their culture is also extremely tied to cultural food, I appreciated the nuance with which you mentioned how everyone defines home differently, and how that translates to this piece. I also enjoyed the composition---the way in which the dishes are arranged reminded me, funnily enough, of buds, or flowers, while the flag was reminiscent of a flowing river.

I also liked the black figure included to represent the pressure of becoming an adult and choosing a path to take!

The painting on it's own is a gorgeous piece, just by looking at it you can sense the melancholic nature of it. When I read into the intentions however, it really allowed me to understand why it looks so bleak. The crushing amount of pressure that comes with the transition to adulthood is something that one cannot quite fathom. Living so much of your life as a kid and all you know is being a kid and once that is gone, to quote you, "is there enough time for the right path?" Being able to convey so many emotions into one painting is an incredible feat. I also love the title, "Don't Worry" since it's a two word phrase that puts the mind at ease, even if that relief is temporary.
