Location: The Chickasaw tribe originally settled in the Southeast areas of Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. In 1832, they migrated to Oklahoma after being forced to sell their land to the United States government. From living in the Southeast areas they were known as the “Spartans of the Lower Mississippi”. When they migrated to Oklahoma much of the tribe had died from things like diseases or hunger. Some of the people were even killed by things like wild animals. The descendents of the Chickasaw tribe still live in Oklahoma.

Absolute location: 34.498568, -97.058940

Relative location: North of Texas and west of Arkansas

In the Southeast area of America where the Chickasaw tribe used to live had highlands and lowlands. The states in the upper parts of this area has rolling hills and the lower part of the area has more flat lands. The Chickasaw people used the hills almost like a border. They would build their houses and other things on the top of the hill so that they can create something like a border. When they hunted they would take a trip down to the lowland of the area to find food like deer and they also fished in the river.

The Chickasaw tribe were known as one of the five civilized tribes along with the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw and Seminoles tribes. In terms of being peaceful, the Chickasaw tribe was not peaceful. They were called “Spartans of the Lower Mississippi”. This tribe did not like other people on their land. They have been known to take out entire secret camps of other tribes at night and know one knew they were coming. They also really never traveled out of their land unless going somewhere to hunt.

The chickasaw tribe lived in three main types of houses. There was a mound grass house, wattle and daub house, and a chickee stilt house. These houses were meant for one family and were placed all over the village. The Mississippian culture people built mound grass houses. These houses were mainly made of one, grass, and a cement like material that they made out of things like mud, dirt, gravel, and sand. This house also had one or two open windows as well as a door. For the people who lived a semi-nomadic lifestyle they built chickee stilt houses. These houses were built with supporting beams that were made of mainly wood that were raised several feet off the ground. On top of that there was a wooden platform with leaves and small sticks that prismic like cover for the roof. Wattle and daub houses were sometimes build for colder climates. These houses were built like the mound grass houses but they had leaves, bushes, and grass that was bunch together to create an extra layer for the house. This would help keep the cold from coming in through the house. When the American settlers thinks like metal tools over to the native americans they started to build wooden log house.
