Haggis is the national dish of Scotland, with the first recipe originating back in the 15th century. Haggis is made by blending boiled sheep offal with onions, oatmeal, suet, and stock, then stuffing it all into the stomach of a sheep. Traditionally, haggis is served alongside mashed turnips and potatoes.

Porridge the traditional Scottish breakfast, also known as the breakfast of champions, is made up of real ground oats and water with just a pinch of salt. However, many people like to spice up this simple dish by adding their own ingredients such as honey or syrup to add a touch of sweetness.

Hogmanay- a Scottish Tradition

Hogmanay is an old Scottish tradition, with the oldest recorded celebration dating back to 1604. Essentially, Hogmanay is the Scottish version of the celebration many of us know as new years. Hogmanay is held to see out the old year and welcome in the new. In Edinburgh the capital of Scotland, large scale street parties are held in celebration of the new year, with the party beginning as early as December 29th. At these parties, roughly 80,000 people attend every year where there is food vendors, live concerts and fireworks.

One of the most common traditions of Hogmanay is called First-Footing, which involves friends and family members going to each others's houses with a bottle of whisky and sometimes a lump of coal. According to the First-footing tradition, in order to ensure good luck in the new year, the first foot to arrive in your house on new year's day should be a handsome dark haired male. The history behind this is believed to be a reference to viking days when a blonde stranger arriving on your door step meant trouble.

Traditional Scottish beliefs and values includes loyalty to one's clan, being courageous and prideful, respecting nature, and a deep connection to their history and heritage.

Theres an old Scottish saying "we're all Jock Tamson's bairns" meaning we are all god's children. This is another Scottish belief which is to treat everyone equally as if we are all brother's and sisters. Scottish people are all about respect, and acting kindly toward one another no matter who you are and where you came from.

Celtic music, sometimes referred to as folk music, is one of the various traditions found in Scotland. Although Scottish music has inspired many other genres of music worldwide, some of the instruments used in Scottish traditional music are seen as somewhat odd by other parts of the world

The Great Highland bagpipe for instance, is an odd looking instrument which produces a very loud humming sound. In the 1700's the Great Highland bagpipe was declared an instrument of war, as it was played to inspire highland warriors to fight in the war.

Fun fact: it is actually a complete mystery as to how the bagpipes arrived in Scotland.

Religion in Scotland is mainly dominated by Christianity, as 54% of the Scottish population identifies as christian. The Church of Scotland, also known as The Kirk, is a Christian church. The church's main beliefs are based on the bible, both the old and the new testaments.

The second largest religion in Scotland is Roman Catholicism, with 16% of the Scottish population identifying as such.
