He was a famous explorer , he first found a European eastern shore on the Pacific Ocean on a mountain top of Panama.  

Vasco Nunez de Balboa born in Jerez de los Caballeros, Mexico  in 1457, he wanted to be a professional fencer to use the skill in fights on his expeditions and a champion at it.

In 1492 Christopher Columbus and Balboa went in a search for new land and instead found South America in 1501, also one year he was on the island known as Hispaniola trying to be a pig farmer as was not a big sucsess . 

Just a nine years later in 1501 Balboa had a change in his luck, he became the governer of Darien. Then he started to be leader of an expedition team. They went to Panama, Balboa coquered some of the island's indians while he spared the other ones that lead him to gold.
