I think that the school that I’m at the moment is a nice school, but i think that I could improve in some aspects. one of them being listening more to the students and their needs, for example a bullying situation ,I can speak from personal experience that the school doesn’t provide much or little help in bullying situations, another example is students with learning disabilities, the school doesn’t provide any help of any kind , and that’s a big problem, because it’s something that if it isn’t control in a yearly stage it gets worse and worse and it gets frustratings.

I think in my opinion that the ideal school would be a school with open classes ( more practical and casual for example), a school were the teacher wouldn’t judge our disrespectful ,a school that provides the necessary help for the students, and a school that helps the students understand that bullying is not right and why it shouldn’t be done, not just punish them but helping them understand what is not right and a school were the school schedule aren’t so heavy.

That's a good question...
I don't think that someday there will be the ideal school. What's good for me migth be the worst thing ever for someone else.
I like my school and how it is now. I know some people in this school hate the fact that they need to pass the breaks with a lot of people in the same place, but I don't. To be honest, that's the thing I like most at school. Because of that, now I have friends in all classes and every they I know someone new!
Some people don't agree with the way students are evaluated( tests, for example) and I also don't agree but, I agree at the same time. A little confused but I'll explain: if, one day, the way we are evaluated change, perfect! But one thing I know is that, the day it happens, it won't be tomorrow, or in a month. This kind of things takes time, so, I have to work and accept my reality. I hope the future students could have a good computer to work and calssrooms with all the conditions they need. I hope that future schools will be better, but, for now, let's work with what we have.
About bullying or anxiety, I've never felt it so, i can't talk to much about that. In my point of view, these things are much more about the person himself.
The only thing that I would probably change was what we're learning. What I mean is not taking the disciplines we have, because portuguese is important, and history, and english! I'm proposing creat new disciplines, like: "How to change your habits". Maybe you're asking yourself why... Think with me: The people who have anxiety, the people who make bullying, the people who can't pay attention, can't study, have focus, make exercise our stop biting their nails, do you what is the problem? HABITS! HABITS! We are not only made of water! You are also made of habits! Do you think the most part of your decisions are rational? Well, that's not true... And I can show you: let's imagine that there is a person named Tate. Tate was wakling in the shopping when, she passed to a store and she saw a bag. "I'm not understanding."- probably is what you're thinkinhg now. Keep with me and you'll understand.
Like I was saying, Tate saw a bag. She walked into the store and she thought: "OMG! This bag is so beautiful! But... I have to save money for my new TV... But, I have time to do it... It's ok! This bag is going to be perfect with my blue pants. And it is also on balance so I have to get this opportunity. I'm going to buy it!".
It seems to be a rational decision, doesn't it? Well, it's not. It's just a habit. Tate will be doing the same but with different things. Do you think about wich shoe you're going to tie up first? If you said yes, I know you're lying! Our brain uses the habits to don't have to much work ,but he doesn't know what is good our bad. It's a survival question, and we we have to show him the ritgh way. And it's not easy or fast, so don´t be lazy! Wake up Pokémon!
"But... How are we supposed to do that? Showing to our brains a new information. This new information will make them create a new memory, and then, a new habit!
There's something called "habit cycle", wich shows us how we create habits.
For you to have an ideia: Colgate, what you use to brush your theet, uses this technique with you. We can also use it for sports. I can't talk more about that because the text is starting to be big.
But the ideia is: we don't have to take out any discipline, we can just creat one. And no, just a lesson is not enough, because how you can see, this takes time and it's something that students need hear every week, to start to creat a memory. It will help teens to study more and create better routines! We'll be showing what happens behind their minds. When we "know" something is very different from when we have "conscense".
That's what I propose for a better school, because there's never going to be the ideal.
We are the step of a conversation to change. It's just a conversation. Think about that...

"Excellence is not an act, but rather a habit." - Aristóteles

Beatriz Pragana, 10ºA

I like this school, I think it´s a good place. The teachers are friendly and teach quite well, well some... but not everything is a sea of roses right ? My classroom is good, well equipped, but could have the tables in a circle because? Facilitates communication that is, it would help us to be more social and we could help each other. I don't have an idea of an ideal school, but I think everyone has the same opinion that the way of teaching should evolve as the generation evolves, that is, in the middle of the 21st century we teenagers are surrounded by internet and social networks, so I think classes could be more interactive, that is, with games that we can play on the phone like "Kahoot!", because if the classes are only learning from the book and only the teacher talking ends up becoming uninteresting. On the evaluations, I don't think it's a bad way to evaluate but the tests are only testing our memory basically, so I think other ways of evaluating could count as much as the tests, but while that doesn't change, which of course it won't be anytime soon, we have to get used to.

Andreia Gomes 10ºA

I think classroom is the place to express your ideas and learn because its there where you learn things and where you can give ideas and work on it. My classmates are friendly and funny and the teachers are nice and teach well in general, but the school is kinda disorganized about the classes(per example), they invite all the classes but sometimes one class dont receive the invite, and that's an example of something that an ideal school can not be. In my opinion I believe that tests are no good way to evaluate a student because it can happens a lot of thinks in the test, the student can have an anxiety attack or forgot the theme. For me the best way to evaluete a student is how he works in the class if he pay attention, if he show interested and effort, and that, in my opinion, its an example of an ideal school.

I think our classes/schools environment are okay not so good but also not so bad, for me am ideal school would be a school where students can express more about themselves and learn things beyond portuguese,maths,science...and teach us more about things that we are going to need to our future like how to pay bills, how to create a bank account or buy a house it seems more appropriate to us.
Ofc portuguese, maths ans science are really important but sometimes I feel like it's the only thing that school teaches us it's the basics of academics development and not how the real world it is.

And about the environment in the classrooms I think less students in the classes and more team work would be the perfect for some people in my opinion I feel like with less people the students who are more shy, have more difficulties would be more open to talk and share what they are with more difficulties,
round tables when people can sit with who they are more friends so we can help each others, more materials like computers and tablets and good schedules.

In my opinion my classroom is a good learning environment but it could be better. One thing about my classroom that is very diffrent from the one i had last year is that the classmates help each other and are really respectful to everybody. I think this is something important to our social skills and also for our learning beacuse if we are in a classroom where anyone supports anyone and where students dont work together, it will be difficult to increase our capabilities. If a class has students that can work together it will be easier to share our ideas, to clarify things that we cant ask our teachers, to study together and learn how to work in groups beacuse in the future we will also have to work with other people. The most important thing in a classroom is the teaching. Thats what makes us learn so i think that every class should be really productive and there shouldnt be any boring classes, what i mean by this is not that a class is supposed to be fun everytime, but atleast it shouldnt be a place to feel bored 100% of the time. Sometimes i went in the classroom and my brain is tired and i already know i wont be paying any attencion in class no matter how hard i try. I can give some exemples of things that should be done in classes instead of reading de manual everytime.
In english classes we should watch some videos/movies/short films because the only way i learned english was from watching a lot of series. When i was younger i used to hate english but when i got older and my parents paid netflix i watched series everyday and that was how i learned. Nowadays i like english and i think i would be 100% prepaired to travel because i already know how to communicate with foreigneirs.
In geometry class the teacher could do more exercises and try to do games so that the students could have fun while learning. I had teachers that made students do the same exercise and the one that finished first wins and competes with another student.
In history class we could watch more videos because there must be lots of them on youtube since history of art is a subject that teaches about culture and these type of topics are usually on the internet.
The other subjects i dont really have any advice.
I think that school should evaluate students by the participation or the hard work they have during the class time because some students can be more hard workers during class and then they have bad grade because of difficulties on decorating the subjects even though they are inteligent. In my opinion a student is not more inteligent than another just because he had better grades. The difference is that maybe the student with better grades has more money to private classes on the free time or more time to study at home. So i think in some cases is unfair to evaluate a student intelligence just by the grades they had in one test.
Now lets talk about the structure of the school. I think that there should be atleat two microwaves in the school. That way, students can bring food from home and warm their lunch.
Something that i noticed that is really diffrent from my old school is that the students rarely go to outside, the majority stays inside. I think thats because the school doesnt has lots of green spaces so people just rather stay sitted. If its cold outside there should be a room with tables and confortable sofas, board games and other activities where students can have fun and feel confortable.

We can do a oral quiz in the classroom and the teacher see what some people know. other thing that if change will be better is the vibe of everyone, we all know that is something that we cant change but it would be nice if the people stop judging others, but we cant do nothing about that. Is what i think that would be good if change, but despite that i like school, i like the environment, the teachers and my friends.

from my point of view, school is a place where knowledge is acquired for the future, so I suppose that this will only happen in the best way in an environment that favors student learning.
I think that we (students) are in a continuous process of learning and developing skills, which is why the school needs to provide sufficient conditions for these two things to go hand in hand.
For this reason, I think that the ideal school would be the environment where students feel at home, I would like the means of teaching to be able to combine conventional and technological means, making more use of study outings.
In the recreational part there could be more events to have fun, such as having a dance club, sports competitions, etc. The vocation of each one should be explored, because sometimes I feel that I am losing material, it doesn't make much sense for my future placement in the job market. The pace at which students assimilate teaching is not the same for everyone, as there are students who do not understand as easily as others, so there should be a more personalized teaching, meeting the needs of each one.
In conclusion, the school in general is a good place for teaching, what should change is the mentality with which students face.

In my opinion, i believe that our classroom is a good enough learning enviorment for most of the students to learn, how ever i do believe that there are problems with the way that the school system wants us to learn. The first change current schools need is, to change the way they teach us, there are better and improved ways to be teached, not only that, the current school system influences students to memorize over understanding their subjects, witch results in them forgeting what they learnd once they have been evaluated. Not only that i believe that some things we learn are not useful and that there are other useful things we could be learning, studies claim that most people only end up using 37% of things they learn in school, witch, considering the ammount of total time we spend in school, its a fairly low ammount. Other things school could improve is in the matter of bullying, some students do not feel safe at their own learning enviorment and current schools do not do enough to stop things like that. As fo the school spaces, i think that the school spaces are okey for the most part. It would be good to have more green spaces outside schools but i do not think that affects much the students or that every student would agree with this. School system needs some work but i believe that we will be able to make it better in the future.

As we saw in the documentary watched during our classes, the school system and classrooms that we have today were both based in an industrial model and implemented about a century ago, to create smart factory workers, who could make a “perfectly average wage, buy a perfectly average house, with a perfectly average backyard and a perfectly average 2.0 kids family”.
Nowadays, though, that kind of job is deemed quite undesirable and, instead of a perfectly average one, usually has a pretty low wage.
With that, we can conclude that, while the world and our society have changed a lot, the educational system itself (which includes all the way from subject selection to how classrooms are organised) has barely changed. Therefore, in my opinion, our classrooms today aren’t a good learning environment, considering its archaic ‘desk-rows-facing-the-board’ organisation.
As for how I think the ideal classroom would be, it probably would be better to have two different models: one made for the first classes of every chapter/module, organised like a round table to have more student-teacher and student-student interaction, but still holding the teacher as the main speaker and moderator, especially during the very first minutes into a new chapter. And the second model, made for more project-based parts of the learning course, could be built around stations to have different activities happening simultaneously. Such stations could be a small round table for group projects, a few computers for individual extra-textbook searches and projects (could be just a table near outlets in our country, considering students already have their own laptops), and a third one with desks near the teacher to do exercises and work around doubts.

I don't think that the nowadays classroom, which is the same at the last at least one hundred years, is a good space where most of us students can learn. I don't believe that ever will exist a classroom where everyone can learn and feel comfortable at the same time, because everyone is different and have different ways to learn. But in my head, my ideal classroom wouldn't have single tables, because I believe that we can learn so much more listening the others students opinion. Also, I believe that the space needs to be colorful, having some things on the walls that make the classroom a happy and comfortable space.

Eliandra Rodrigues 10°A

So, I'm going to write here what I think about what the ideal school would be like and how it really is for me.
The word 'school' comes from the greek schloé, which means "leisure", the same as "free time" that is, a time to discuss philosophy and social behavior. However, what I feel at school is the pressure of "learning" several subjects at the same time, the fear of not being able to understand, the psychological and emotional exhaustion, classes without stimulus to learning making me question if it's worth waking up to go to another exhausting day.
The suggestion of an ideal school has been debated for some time, and I think that what the school lacks to be an environment that is at least adequate is the student's freedom of expression, in which the student chooses not to answer a question from the teacher for fear of making a mistake and being judged or being scolded. The several hours of class are also quite harmful I would say, for the Simple fact that throughout the day the mind is already so worn out that the throught that dominates me is " I want to go home", leaving me more dispersed and making me not absorb nothing, whith less hours I would be less tired and still have more time at home to spend what I saw in the classroom, that is, less hours at school and more practice at home. One thing I also think about would be having a psychologist at school where we could went and ask for advirce.
So this would be a comfortable environment for me, it wouldn't be perfect, but it would make me want to learn and go to school much more than just going out of obligation.

*maybe I didn't specify well, so just to clarify, I didn't just write about my current school but all the ones I've been to.*

In my opinion school is a place to learn and make new friends. School is very important, because over time we can see the evolution we've had since we were little until today, we all change in many ways. For me, the ideal school was important for the evaluations not to be all with written tests because many people cannot demonstrate what they know that way, or it's nerves or pressure from parents and there are several other reasons, we could have more group work and individual research and having more interactive classes that also help us to have more confidence with the group and with the place where we are, mainly to learn how to deal with different people. Many people do not feel comfortable at school because of people who do not respect others, for me everyone has flaws and qualities because nobody is perfect and with this we learn to deal with each other. To conclude, the school should have green spaces and a room where we can socialize with other classes, as this is very important.
Ana Carolina Marques 10A
