Better onboarding training for new SpEd teachers (especially interns) who are required to write IEPs/navigate SEIS and assess students in the first weeks of school without adequate training beforehand. Ownership of all students by all teachers whether or not they have a disability. Better resources (scope and sequence for SpEd expectations with adapted resources, student work materials, manipulatives, behavior support supplies, training and purchased program materials to meet student needs in math, reading and writing) for Special Education classrooms. Aides should be full day for SpEd classes. Balanced staffing to allow SpEd teachers time in their schedules for prepping for teaching, testing, writing IEPs and holding meetings within contract hours.
