Example: Evaluating Olivia Rodrigo's Portfolio Website

Overall, I think this is an effective portfolio website. The site feels personal, with design choices that resemble a scrapbook or notebook. This design fits with Olivia's music and brand.

The scrolling homepage starts with a bio section, then a link to her album, a music video preview, and a newsletter contact form. This structure feels simple yet comprehensive -- all the information I would be looking for is here, but it is not so much information that I am overwhelmed. That said, I think the bio could be a little shorter and I wish it appeared in the menu at the top of the page.

The menu is brief, with just three items, and social media links are in a prominent location in the top right corner of the homepage. I think it would be very easy to find exactly what you're looking for on this site.

Overall, I think Lila has a good portfolio. Although I think she should put a bio/about info at the top of the home page so people know what her site is about, her design is clean and concise which really highlights her digital work and designs.

The site is interactive. When you scroll over the icons, they change color and also show before/after for certain projects. I also like how each project’s webpage has its own theme that relates to the work she did, which I think is clever and makes her website a portfolio in it of itself.

She explains each project in a story-like way which makes it interesting to read. She also includes a portion about her creative process and the skills she learned from each project, which would be useful for employers looking at the website (which I believe is the intent behind showcasing her work).

Good Example of a Portfolio Website: From Both Sides of the Couch

Firstly, Andrea Rosenhaft, a licensed clinical social worker, states the theme of this website very clearly. When first clicking on the website, she mentions on the top of the page that this website will be about "A therapist reflecting on her journey of mental illness and healing." This allows for viewers to understand the purpose of this blog from when first viewing it.

Next, the website contains a very clean structure. For example, the homepage of the website is split into various categories: rejection, eating disorders, grief, stigma, stress, medications, suicide, mental health within politics, depression, etc. This allows for a great amount of viewers to relate their own specific mental health needs to the various categories that Andrea has provided information on.

Lastly, this website can be found to be extremely relatable and real. Rather Andrea only writing informational blogs to particular mental health disorders, she relates these topics to her day-to-day experience. For instance, amongst these blogs, Andrea has mentioned that she has an eating disorder. Amongst her writing various blogs about other pressing issues regarding mental health, she puts out updates regarding her eating disorder and how she is healing from it daily. In another blog, she also mentions her struggle to find a job and her having to approach the feeling of rejection for the first time. Containing this type of reliability in her content allows for viewers to establish a feeling of closeness to these blogs.

I think that this website’s aesthetic design is really what promotes Jeanette Ogden’s (@shutthekaleup on Instagram) brand and ethos as an influencer.

The theme of the website is very pleasing to the eye as the font is quirky and the colors complement her brand identity which conveys what the audience would gain from following her lifestyle on social media.

The structure of the site is based upon the visual draws of titles and images that concisely summarize each post (the format is very similar to what one would find on her Instagram in terms of layout making it familiar to a majority of the audience to this site)

The navigation of the site is also very accessible as the main offerings are clearly displayed in a contrasting font and color from the rest of the content

I really like this website; though it is simple, it really conveys who Jeanette is beyond her social media presence as well as the offerings of her brand, which include recipes and other blog posts. I find the aesthetics and her the voice in her posts helps to bolster her online presence further and provides a more holistic overview of who she is as a person beyond her Instagram profile

Good Example of a Portfolio: Amanda Gorman

The beginning of the portfolio has a photo of Amanda Gorman next to a paragraph explaining who she is and her accomplishments. This layout decision prevents there from being any confusion about who she is and what she does.

The second good choice is the balance of text and photos throughout the website which makes the information more accessible because the viewers don’t feel overwhelmed by text, or bombarded with a bunch of photos they have no context for.

Whoever created the website also made the decision to place obvious buttons under Gorman’s published books and newsletter subscription. This easy access is good for business because people don’t have to work hard to buy her work, so they are more likely to do so, but it also just helps with accessibility.

I think graphic designer Lindaluz’s website is a good example of a well-structured website. The site is very organized and the simple design allows for the user to navigate it easily. The site has the following menus: work, about, contact, and shop. I think it's very clear to navigate and the links to her social media are prominent on the right top corner.

I really like the way she organized her work menu. She divided her work into different categories such as logos, mural work, illustrations, posters, and others. It helps organize and display her versatility as an artist.

I like how personalized her website is. Lindaluz’s work reflects topics such as self love, growth, and resilience. In the homepage, the first thing you see is her graphic art and it helps showcase her style and what her artwork is about. In her about page, she provides more information on her background as an artist and education, as well as a link to her resume. Overall, her site is very organized and helps showcase her work.

I think her portfolio does a good job of representing her brand and music in a myriad of ways.

- Firstly, the font and color pattern she uses is easily legible and fits the "atheistic" of music and brand; it showcases allusion to vintage southwest America

- The website also includes everything one would need to know about her and his music: her songs, merchandise, etc. Her website is also mostly gravitated around her most recent album: Chemtrails Over the Country Club, giving the viewer a pathway to her most recent work.

- Although she does a mostly decent job, she lacks in her homepage. Her homepage has smaller text in the corners where it further directs, not being very obvious to the viewer and may cause confusion.

Rapoet's portfolio is a good starting place for a portfolio site. It has basic structural pieces like a portfolio photo, bio, and contact information. While the site includes all of the necessary basics, the presentation is a bit off. The font colors and block style formatting make it a bit hard on the eyes.

The second improvement that could be made is simply moving the navigation bar from the bottom of the page to the top. Its current location at the bottom makes it easy to miss. The font and font color choice do make the navigation bar stand out so that is something that could be kept and perhaps implemented throughout the website.

A positive thing I saw on the website was the use of pop-ups. Since this is a page for music artists, there was a pop-up of their song when you first enter the page which is great for site interaction. Overall, the site has the essentials but with minor tweaks and reorganization it could be better.

http://www.rapoet.com/

* Krawec's portfolio is definitely one that catches the eye of the audience with its bright colors, movement in icon buttons, and images. This is a good starting point because you want the website to draw in the audience and make them wonder what it is about so they go exploring it. The design of the website also goes onto reflect the personality of its creator towards the audience which is a good thing and getting an idea as to who they are.
* One thing that can be improved within the portfolio is the layout of it. Right off the bat, one can't tell what it's about or what is the purpose of the portfolio. It may be helpful to include a brief introduction or paragraph explaining that so that there is more clarity.
*One thing I really liked about the website is how it incorporates different media within it. There are photos, gifs, and music and this helps to make the portfolio feel more modern and thus can overall create a better connection with the targeted audience.

Example of a Good Portfolio: Samuel Eder

I have chose to analyze Samuel Eder's website portfolio, whom I know personally and consider a friend which I have shared stories, memories and some heated philosophical debates:
1. The first thing one gets to see when you go to Sam's portfolio page is one of his most acclaimed photographs. He is showing his most acclaimed piece and introducing those that might be curious to it. He allows for a possible reader to get a quick glimpse of some of his other photographs by clicking over the picture.
2. The navigation through different parts of the website portfolio is quite easy. Every menu tells you what it pertains to and the name of his projects. Perhaps, however, it should be more clear on how to navigate the photographs of these projects as it is quite difficult to figure out what to do on a first glimpse as a black arrow pops up over mostly photographs with a dark background.
3. Sam is a documentary photographer, so it is quite perfect that most of the website is taken over by his photographs. His pieces overwhelm the page and call attention to them, whether it be about civilians and their suffering in the Ukraine-Russia border or whether it be pictures taken at his time in the Mahindra United World College, the photograph is always the protagonist of the website.

The images and effects did not seem superfluous and there seems to be a clear organization to the page which I think is important in order to make a webpage both inviting and efficient.
- another element of this webpage that I like was how there were straight forward section links at the top making it easy to find what you are looking for, or simply navigate the website if you have never used it before. In other words I think is friendly to both return users and newcomers which I also think is important.
- I also like how on the first page as you scroll down there are glimpses of the various thinks you can find on the webpage, sort of like a preview, but many of these are also links so on the whole the webpage I found to be really easy to navigate and very clear in its purpose.

It was not very strong so I wanted to talk a bit about it.

This website is weird to open without context. If you wanted to know who Suzanne Collins was, then you would know she lives in New York, is an Author, and then a picture with her and a rat. The fact that her book and her reviews are the first things presented makes the website more of an advertisement when you get past the confusion.

Jumping to her photo on the main page, it is unprofessional. Rather than a headshot, she chooses a photo that references her books. It is explained in the photo description, but if there needs to be a description to explain it, why would you put it? It may only cause more confusion.

Her works page is not up to date with her most recent book. While you can see it on the main page, it is not given one of its own.
