It presents a systematic approach to WBL at a high school that is highly career-oriented.

Throughout the video, academics were always integrated with career application concepts based on student interests. Students were engaging in tasks that would prepare them for their chosen careers.

The school district was partnered with many different businesses, and there were opportunities for interviews, internships, and future jobs. In my opinion, what this school is doing with career integration and WBL is the ideal for students.

Job Corps is a federally funded residential vocational training program that offers training to an enormous array of trades to individuals who are between the ages of 16-24. Students entering Job Corps are provided with housing, food, medical care, uniforms, equipment, and other resources in order to prepare to enter the work force or to simply serve as a pre-apprenticeship/mentoring program. Students can earn their HS diploma through Job Corps (with no Standardized testing requirement), obtain their driver's license, complete a trade and prepare to enter college or the military. I highly recommend this pathway for many students.

Below is a link to the Dept. of Labor Job Corps YouTube Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBS5sCjjmYGe2T9uDNPgd4w

One way to support this awareness is to arrange for workplace tours or field trips, so that students may explore jobs within the community around them and see various occupations in action.

I included a video of a tour of a post office as a kind of example of a community based instruction (CBI)/field trip that could be arranged. This type of trip could be further arranged so that someone at the location can speak to the students and give them more of an insight to the everyday operations of working at a particular location. While on CBI an instructor can be sure to highlight all the different types of jobs and work the employees are doing, to support in that career awareness.

The video of Edison students explains how some students benefit from career awareness through hands on job experience. The students learn skills at the school site to transfer to a local business. The students have a uniform and are expected to perform up to standards. Students learn basic work ethic and relationships, and how to interact with co-workers. Students over time in this program have shown they are able to work for a longer time without a break, they are able to focus, can ask for help, and when they start a job they are able to complete it.
