We have been told by NHS England on behalf of the Copyright Licensing Authority to act with caution when using generative AI tools to create summaries of research.

Some publishers have prohibited the use of any of their published materials (articles, books, clinical decision support tools etc.) in AI tools, and because there is currently no copyright license or non-commercial exception for use of these tools, you could be breaking copyright laws.

If you have been planning to use AI to summarise research whether for education or other reasons, we recommend you don’t or suggest you approach publishers directly to check what they will and won't allow.
