In 1950's people at that time just got over ww2 5 years ago and probably have PTSD or don't want to be tried or triggered by threats from people so they try their best covering themself to survive.You still wont be able to fly to Mars because first the exosphere is there which will probably block you off from leaving earth,and how much people will be on that ship because there's at least 8 billion people on earth and you have to have material food and life for you to go to Mars.There's no living animals on Mars and we know that because astronauts actually went to Mars and explored Mars more than earth.We would have to make a new living for newborns being born on Mars which will probably make them have low oxygen or probably have a disability for just being born on Mars.We would not be able to go to Mars at all it is impossible for us.

It was in the 1950s during the cold war which meant that they had a lot less technological advancements so they wouldn't have the gear to go to mars but in the animation they wouldn't have the stuff to go to mars.
