Summary of Lesson: (Kindergarten) In this lesson, I taught the students on what makes a good citizen in society focusing on characteristics and a sense of responsibility. Through the use of diverse instructional methods, like videos, class discussions, teamwork building activities, and self-reflection drawings, students began to demonstrate and apply their knowledge based on the mini lesson of what good citizenship entails. They were able to build on their prior knowledge of fair play and friendship, and discuss why we must follow rules to ensure a safe community environment. I checked for understanding throughout the lesson, and even saw them applying what we learned at lunch and recess! For the student samples below, I gave them a drawing scenario of “What would you do if your friend fell and got hurt at recess? “ What really wowed me was how creative your drawing was! I liked how you drew the action, and how you would respond to it. It is like a before and after! You modeled a characteristic of a good citizen that is being caring and helpful. Next time, when you talk about a drawing, try to use some of the words that we mentioned on our anchor chart, or even try to write about your drawing. Excellent job!”
