An analytic or practical skill I imagine bringing with me throughout my career as a health work personnel is the ability to critically think. I plan to take this skill and apply this to understanding the history of western medicine as I practice it. I plan to take the information I have learned from this class and use that to critically think and properly address patients of different backgrounds worldwide.

I think that one skill I would take with me for the future is critically thinking about cultural significance of healthcare and being able to put myself in the position of someone else when it comes to understanding how others view health. I want to take away these skills because I think that when you work in a healthcare setting, you will end up working with a variety of people coming from different backgrounds and different groups. Being able to empathize with their experience will be able to expand your understanding of how health is viewed by other people and what health professionals can do to support those groups and individuals.

My future career I wanna do is healthcare. If I were a healthcare worker, I would bring the mindset that disease or illness biologically may not be the core of why patients not feeling well, but the reasons vary from social, economic to cultural and academic aspects. We have to understand patients from wider and multiple aspects. Lastly, if a patient puts off a doctor appointment, there is a reason much broader than we think it would be that explains their postpone. Anh Le

I imagine bringing with me the skill to understand and analyze different aspects of society and understand the interconnectedness of it all and the inequalities present. I think I will always have an anthropology lense with me when looking at the world so to speak and be able to see systems proposed as black and white in the more complex ways they actually function in relation to the human experience.

I thought that the the best practical skill I got through this class was the ability think about reproductive health not just through a reproductive autonomy lens, but through a reproductive justice lens. Understanding equitable reproductive health doesn't just mean theoretically having the right to bodily autonomy, but rather the right to accessible and fair and effective healthcare is something I will definitely take in my future career.

I think I will be able to bring a better understanding and ability to partake in culturally sensitive healthcare. I feel I have become more educated about the importance and impact of considering someone's health as a whole, outside a doctor's office and the many things that influence it. I think I will be more capable in navigating the healthcare system on behalf of patients and recognizing when they need more advocation. - Ana Marriott

One skill that I will bring with me is remembering the importance of culture in healthcare, and being culturally sensitive, especially when it comes to community health. People have different, values, beliefs, traditions, etc. revolving around health, and it is important to remember and consider that when we work with communities. In addition, I think that building trust with the communities that we work with is vital to creating positive and sustainable change.

I feel that it is important for someone to know the holistic approach of what the difference between disease and illness is. Being able to understand that, gives us a broader correlation of how certain cultures define these words. For medical physicians, I think this is an important concept to comprehend because not only are they working towards being able to heal and cure someone, but they should be focusing on preventing further complications to arise. I believe it’s extremely important to try and understand how and why your patient or coworker may respond differently to ideas or treatments. It creates a mutual respect between people by demonstrating how a deep care for one another holistically.

As someone who want to be a healthcare worker, a skill that I learned that I will use in my future career is using a bottom-up approach. Instead of coming up with short-term solutions that only manage an issue, I want to be able to identify and address the underlying causes of an issue. And with that information, I want to be able to help people by coming up with long-term solutions and preventions.

A skill that I imagine bringing into my practice as a public health practitioner and clinician is to think critically about the social determinants of health for immigrant populations. This class helped me to learn about the United States' discrimination against migrants with tactical infrastructure, as well as refugees from overseas. The US has a history of systemically discriminating against Brown and Black people, but this starts even before they set foot on US soil. Global health shortcomings are a result of colonialism, climate injustice, and much more.

I think more than anything communication. Throughout the quarter I have seen and read what the effects of lack of communication there of, has led to people not receiving the healthcare that they need ultimately leading to unwanted health outcomes in so many communities. Going with this skill in mind can lead to me being able to understand people with a different mindest and openness that could lead to better health outcomes.

I think one skill I will take with me into the future is a more critical view of how our world works. Before this class, I was unaware of how interconnected many of these issues were. However, after all of the class material, I have a better understanding of how systems such as colonialization and racism affect various groups in the world differently. Knowing this information will allow me to approach situations with more empathy and compassion.

Having read so many articles and textbook chapters on the impact of culture on healthcare and how people experience it, I understand that there's so much more to disease and care systems than just receiving care. The impact can vary so much just based on how you grew up, the values you hold dear, the people who surrounded you growing up. Not everyone is the same, that's obvious, but the ways we differ - and the reasons behind them - are numerous.

Foe me personally, one skill I would consider taking with me into the future would be effective communication which is a crucial skill in healthcare-related roles by conveying a clear and thought out response. whether that be directed towards colleagues, patients, or policymakers. This skill ensures accurate understanding, ensures collaboration, and group informed decision-making in difficult medical environments. Whether as a healthcare worker, researcher, politician, patient, advocate, or activist, the ability to communicate efficiently is fundamental for the best outcome in the health care field, or any field in general.

I think this idea and understanding is extremely important in this day and age and will continue to be important because we will continue to work with people from many different walks of life. Always keeping in mind the awareness and mindfulness of different beliefs, socioeconomic status's, and race should not differ the quality and urgency of care provided. Throughout this course we've learned about the harsh realities of inequity towards vulnerable communities and the vast difference in quality of care they receive. For my future I want to be in health care. When I reach that status I will bring in the mindset that each culture doesn't have the same treatment. So as a person in health care I would treat everyone the same in the fact that I will find every solution that I can no matter what culture they come from or sexual orientation. I will also bring in the mindset that not every problem core is biological. The core could be social or cultural problems, so that would make me a better health care worker because I will see beyond the biological problems and be able to treat my patients better and solve the root of the problem, so they don't have to keep coming back and spending all their money. I will also be able to be more sensitive to my patients with all of the knowledge that over gained from this class. I can better understand their situation and better asses the problem.
