My reading Never Send a Human to do a Machine’s Job exposes how our society view technology and more so, how it has been perceived on an educational level. Our society fears the unknown. And then make weird assumptions about it. Yet, we are intrigued by it as well; thus testing and poking at it until we determine rather or not it is good or bad i.e. how will it fit into our agendas. Several movies have been made that test the power of technology. Can you a recall a conversation you held with someone about technology? What were their views on it?
-Latrrina Wagner

My reading has posed the question about the purpose and validity of school in an age of technological abundance. It has said that our traditional approach does not mirror the shape of the work place. The first half of the book as begun to raise the question about completely online learning. The learning is not supposed to take the form of content but the form of learning how to learn. What do you think about this approach? We all realize that technology is playing a huge role for our youth. How can we best utilize this abundance of information to make students more relevant in the working world?

Hi Latrina,
Technology sure is quite the topic of discussion isn't it? In a business sense there are so many directions it can go to save organizations money by becoming more efficient and cost effective. Ultimately, what cost does a machine take a toll on the human element of the world? I have this conversation very often regarding different businesses/industries. For example in trucking/transport. Eventually the shipments will be transported by self driving vehicles. What potential problems does this have? re-routing, inspection, safety, who knows what else might occur.
-Matthew

Computers are one facet of our media saturated society. Their present-day existence has redefined how individuals interact. As any social fixture, this technological tool remains subject to sex differences. Although dimi ni shi ng, boys still tend to use computers more and have more self-confi dence with them than girls (Colley & Comber, 2003). Responsively, more reports and programs increasing and enhancing girls' interactions with technology have emerged (Miller, 1996; Valenza, 1997; Volman & van Eck, 2001; Weinman &
Haag, 1991). However, African American gi rls and their relationships to technology are narrowly understood. Indeed, software designers rarely consider African American girls as a potential audience (Morgan, 2002). Beyond the technology world, many social scientists also ignore the complex, lived experiences of African American girls and focus on their strangeness (Collins, 2000; hooks, 1984).
