It was beneficial for me starting with ‘What is PDC?’ that we should learn the meaning at the first sight. I have understood what a PDC meeting is mostly. And also , i have seen that sample warm -up activities which are done by the facilitators are so important for starting the lesson.

Have your ideas about teaching young learners changed in anyway? If so,how?

Actually, I have already so many ideas about teaching young learners. But today I found out that some of them should be renewed by the time.Because children have different brains from us and think differently. They can create a new language and they can use language creatively. For example, she /he says ‘flower stick’ instead of ‘flower stalk’.So, I realized today that children have a different way of thinking and it is based on creativeness almost.

1)What needs to be adopted most in your coursebooks to help children improve their oral skills?

Firstly, one of the main problems with our coursebooks is lack of clear context exactly. The given contexts in our books are not enough for children understanding. The context should be supported by appropriate visuals and correct words to make it clear. For example, there is a dialogue that two boys are talking about The place where the ball is.The picture given is not so clear and the dialogue has lack of social language .So, it should have more clear contexts.

With the help of PDCs,we will let our students improve their oral skills by not a traditional way like only ‘listen and repeat’ , but by giving them a chance to speak more meaningfully. Instead of a ‘listen and repeat ‘activity, we can motivate them with giving them a meaningful purpose for saying the dialogue for instance. We can make the dialogue more real by using real objects and etc.

Do you think Shared Reading is a suitable procedure to use with L2 children? Why/ Why not?

Yes , I think that Shared Reading is a suitable procedure to help children to develop L2 Reading skills. Because Shared Reading helps children to read the story or text with the support of teacher. Shared Reading means also working together in which the teacher and children read a story or a text as we did in our classroom today. And also Reading activities can be a little bit challenging for early readers but with the procedure of Shared Reading , it will make reading an enjoyable experience.

Maintaining a balance between children’s environment and acceptable behaviour is often one of the greatest challanges that primary language teachers Face.

1) Do you agree or not?
2) What challenges do teachers face? And how do they manage it?

1)Yes, i agree totally.
2)Children have an environment and a way of thinking , behaviouring and learning that is different from the adults. So, teachers should consider them while they are teaching something to them. During this process, teachers face lots of challanges. Because of the children’s some problems like about their family or their social environment or economical problems which happen beyond them , it becomes a bigger challenge to handle for teachers. For example, as a teacher , my one of the biggest problem is that according to the students , there is no need to learn English or they are anxious about it.And this demotivates them at first. So as a teacher , first of all ,my first duty is motivating them with introducing L2 language. I am trying to manage this problems with making the lesson enjoyable and being usually a calm teacher .And also , discussing the rules together and being aware of the reasons why they should or should not do something help them to motivate for learning English . Finally, if teachers have a pre knowledge about children’s interests and environment , it will be easier for classroom management.

1. Are there any tips or techniques from thesessions today that you could use tomanage your PCs positively?2. Are there any other elements ofclassroom management in your PDCSthat you will have to think about(managing Feedback for example).

1) Yes ,there are. Allowing the PDS’ attendants to carry out the activity independently and take responsibility as a group work or an individual and keeping them connected or giving them time limits are some techniques we can use at PDC’s.
2) One of the most critical elements for managing at PDC’s is that giving instructions clearly. We should be sure about they understand the activity exactly.

I have already been careful about way of assessment , for example, I often use pink or purple colour pens when I am evaluating written exams :) not to discourage them with red pens:).And also, we can use some symbols like smiling faces, stars , stickers or oral feedbacks like ‘well done! , ‘good work ‘ etc.

1. What do you think will be the greatest benefitof being in a Professional DevelopmentCommunity for the teachers of English in yourlocal context who join your PDC meetings2. How do you feel the PDC sessions you havestudied in this face to face training programmewill help you deal with possible problems whenyou are planning and conducting PDCs forteachers in your local context?

1) To me , the greatest benefit of being in PDC for the local teachers who will join our meetings is that we will let them think , pair and share ideas ,opinions , common problems which teachers are facing with in their classroom and then eventually we will try to find out some solutions for them. With the help of these PDC meetings, we will reach most of the ELT teachers and make them feel not lonely in their local areas.
2)We have learnt PDC structure which is a curriculum at five stages warmer, review, engage and share , reflect and evaluate . And also , we have learned some techniques and strategies how we can adopt or modify activities from our coursebooks .In our PDCs , i will try to be a facilitator as i have learned from this programme.
