(Melissa)

Chicken Tikka Masala is a perfect example for a dish which is originally from another country, but altered by the British. Chicken Tikka is an Indian dish, which was brought to England by the Indian immigrants. The British really liked the dish, except that one thing was missing: gravy. So in order to that, they added a spiced tomato-cream sauce to the dish. Some people even say it is the first widely example of fusion cuisine and that it is as a symbol of the multicultural society. Nowadays, you can order a Chicken Tikka Masala on almost every corner on the street.

References:

Siciliano-Rosen, L. (2014, 10 22). Britannica.

(Roy)

Fish and chips is a very typical British dish. The fish is coated in flour and afterwards fried in oil. The same goes for the fries. The potatoes are cut into the right shapes and then fried in oil as well.

It all started when Joseph Malin (a Jewish immigrant) opened a store in London somewhere around 1860, which was selling these foods combined. It was such a success that 50 years later there were about 25.000 fish and chips shops across the country.

Nowadays it is often offered as a take-away meal in a disposable newspaper cone. This is referring to the very start of the fish and chips, because they wrapped it in old newspapers to keep the prices down.

References:
Ellen Castelow, n.d.
Historic Uk Fish&Chips
https://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/Fish-Chips/

(Caroline)

A full English breakfast is considered one of the most internationally recognised British dishes. The history of the ‘Full English breakfast’ roots back to the early 1300’s and was introduced by a higher social class called the gentry. The gentry saw it as their duty to keep alive the practices, values, culture and cuisine of the traditional Anglo-Saxon country lifestyle. (G. Bule)

Nowadays, another name for the full English breakfast is a ‘fry up’, so it’s up to everyone to choose which name to use when ordering this dish. The breakfast consists of fried eggs, sausages, back bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, fried bread and often a slice of white or black pudding. It is accompanied by tea or coffee and hot, buttered toast.
