Waves are disturbances that travels through a substance or material from one location to another. The first particle is moved from the equilibrium or also known as it's rest position. The particle might be moving up or down, forwards or backwards. But once it moves, it's back it's equilibrium. A wave transports energy - not matter. When a disruption moves through a material or substance from one particle to a particle, energy is being carried from one end of the material to the other.

The line that goes through the center of the wave shows the equilibrium or rest position of the wave. This is the position if the wave weren't moving through something. Once it moves through something, the particles of the string begin to vibrate up and down. At any moment, a particle on the material it's going through could be above or below the rest position. The crest is the point that shows the maximum amount of the upwards movement from the rest position. The trough of a wave is the point on the medium that shows the maximum amount of downward movement from the rest position. The amplitude of a wave shows the maximum amount of movement of a particle on the material or substance it's moving through from its rest position. The amplitude is basically the distance from rest to crest. The amplitude can be measured from the rest position to the trough position. The wavelength is another property of a wave that is portrayed in the diagram above. The wavelength of a wave is simply the length of one complete wave cycle. A wave is a repeating pattern over time and space and the length of one repetition - which is called a wave cycle -is the wavelength. The wavelength can be measured as the distance from crest to crest or from trough to trough. The wavelength can be measured from a point on a wave to the next point on the next cycle of the wave.

Transverse waves is where particles of the thing it's moving through, move in a way opposite to where that the wave moves. As the quick movement is moved from left to right, the loops that are alone in the material will be removed upwards and downwards. The particles of the material it's going through move opposite to the direction the rhythm moves. Transverse waves are described by molecule movement being opposite to wave movement.

Waves that travel along the surface of the oceans are called surface waves. A suface wave is where particles of the material or substance that go thorough a circular flow. Surface waves are not longitudinal waves or transverse waves. In longitudinal and transverse waves, all the particles in the whole section of the material move in a parallel and a perpendicular motion, which is beneficently related to the direction of energy that is being carried. It is only the particles at the surface of the material that go through the circular motion. The motion of particles usually decreases as one particle gets further from the surface.

A mechanical wave is not made for carrying its quick movement and energy through a vacuum. Mechanical waves needs a material or substance that can carry their quick movements starting with one area to the next. A sound wave is an example of a mechanical wave. Sound waves are not made for going through a vacuum. Smooth waves, water waves, stadium waves, and hop rope waves are different demonstrations of mechanical waves. They each need some a material remember to get to the end.

An electromagnetic wave is equipped for carrying its energy and movement through empty space. Electromagnetic waves are made by the vibration of charged particles. Electromagnetic waves that are delivered on the sun along these lines go to Earth through the vacuum of space. If electromagnetic waves could not go to through empty space, there would no life on Earth. Every single light wave are electromagnetic waves.

Longitudinal waves are waves which the movement of the particles by themselves of the material or substance it is going through, and becomes parallel to the direction of a very quick movement. A longitudinal wave can be made if the wave is stretched in an even stance and the main loops are vibrated on the same level. Every individual loop of the thing it's going through is set into vibrational movement in it's stance is parallel to the course that the quick movement is sent.

Wave energy is made when power generators are placed on the surface of the sea. The energy is often used as a part of desalination plants (it is a process that takes out minerals from salt water), power plants and water pumps. The energy level is determined by how tall the wave is, it's velocity, wavelength, and it's thickness. Currently, there are a good number of test wave generator plants in operation around the world.

There are three basic types of wave energy creations. One of them uses floats or propelling tools to help create power using the rise and fall of the sea level to help power water powered pumps. The second is using devices that can predict which way the sea will sway, to create power at the shore using the rise and fall of water inside of a rod. The rising water lets some movement on the highest point of the rod, fueling an air-managed generator. Third is a decreased passage that can be found either on the shore or the sea. They focus waves and carry them into a lifted shore, where force is then used to make hydropower generators as the water is being let go.
