Book Selection: The Blood of Olympus

I am going to describe a character in this book as opposed to the book as a whole, because a certain character taught me a very important life lesson. A kid named Leo Valdez, demigod of Hephaestus, did the ultimate sacrifice. He knew that if the Gods were to beat the earth goddess, Gaea, he would have to sacrifice himself for everyone, which is exactly what he does. throughout the book, it is evident he knew what his fate was, and even with that he still did it. I forget the exact spot, but at one point someone saw he looked feverish, and they looked deeper into future and gasped really badly, knowing what was going on. The life lesson is that loyalty goes far beyond just being a good friend. Leo knew that he would pass away by flying his mechanical dragon into the fray, but in order to save the Gods and his friends, he did so. The loyalty he showed to everybody is a life lesson I will take with me wherever I go.

Art Selection: State Sectional Win

After going 75 out of 80 minutes scoreless, and being down 1-0 for most of it, New Providence's chances of winning the state sectional championship were looking pretty grim. However, Sebastian thought otherwise. With about 3 minutes remaining, he guided the ball into the back of the net, sending the game to overtime. New Providence had taken the momentum of the game, and just 4 minutes into the overtime period, James Miller put the ball right past the goalie, securing the championship for NP. The adversity these guys faced throughout the entire game was equally matched by their perseverance and persistence throughout the game. They did not give up at any point throughout this game, and they won the state sectional championship not by luck, not by a single person's contribution, but as a team. The lesson here is that no matter the hardship you face in life, you should never give up. The Pioneers could have easily called it quits and let Glen Ridge rack up another sectional championship. Another takeaway could be that with teamwork and good leadership, you can accomplish amazing things. Nothing in this game was due to a single person's play. Sure, Sebastian and James scored the goals, but that doesn't include the goalie's (Miguel Garcia) 10 saves, or Ben Peng's assist, or the constant defense throughout the game from Ryan Sherman, Devin Mulligan, and the midfield play by Brendan Regan. That is just naming some of the team and their impact. It just goes to show that everybody on the field played their part, and as a team, they achieved a sectional championship, together.

Song Selection: I Believe Most People Are Good by Luke Bryan

This song represents who I am because throughout the song, the lyrics talk about how despite the negativity in the world seems to always show, there is still so much positivity. It talks about how the nightly news always has the bad stories first, and gives the connotation that all of this world is bad. However, I believe people in this world are still good, just like this song describes.

Dusk is my favorite time of day. I love it when the sun is all golden in the sky, either when you are outside seeing it, or if it is beaming through the windows on a late summer afternoon. It also reminds me of all those late evenings playing basketball, football, soccer and stick-ball with my friends as a kid. Not to mention, athletic photos during dusk look awesome. It is just a perfect time of day, and easily my favorite, no question about it.
