         <title>Atmosphere/climate</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The climate during the triassic period seemed to have been more homogeneous than today. The temperature differences was between the areas around the Equator and the poles were minor compared to today and there were no polar ices. The climate during this time period was overall very dry with atmospheres CO2 levels 5-10 times higher than today. Oxygen levels were only about 15% and in the beginning of the period (235 mya) temperatures were extremely high. The climate was very dry over the Pangaea which caused hot summers and ice cold winters in the hinterlands. Closer to the coasts the climate was hot and damp with seasonal monsoons. Later on during the period the temperatures lowered, but were still higher than our temperatures today. </div>]]></description>

         <title>The ocean</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>During the earlier Permian Extinction high carbon dioxide levels had wiped out as much as 95 percent of the marine species. This mass extinction caused oceans to be massively depopulated. Species from the triassic period, as the fossil fish were very homogeneous which caused very few families to survive. In the early triassic period reptiles emerged from the oceans. An example is the Ichthyosaurus that evolved from looking as a lizard to later on look more like dolphins. The first modern stony corals occurred during the later part of the period and parallel to a modest reef building close to the coast of Pangaea.	</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The mass extinction that destroyed more than 90% of life on earth, also called the great dying, occurred at the end of the permian period and at the beginning of the triassic. This was a forsaken time in earth’s history. Researches discuss whether this was caused by climate change, volcanic eruptions or even a colliton with a asteroid. After the great dying surviving species had a greater opportunity to evolve, land life began to diversify, all thanks to the survival of the fittest. ANother major event was the emerging of the first dinosaurs and the smaller rodent-sized mammals.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Dominant species</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This era is often labelled as the age of the reptiles. There were mainly two groups of animals that survived the great dying, the Permian extinction, the therapsids and the Archosaurs. The Therapsids were mammal-like reptiles and the Archosaurs were more reptile like. During the early Triassic period the Therapsids came to dominate the new epoch. Fossils of one breed, the Lystrosaurus, is found both before the great death but were also common during the early triassic period. As the years passed the Therapsids became extinct and the Archosaurs.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>At the end of the Paleozoic era, the earth’s large crustal plates collided and formed Pangaea, the supercontinent. Yet again during the early triassic period the land started to break apart again. This process is still ongoing. At this time Asia, Europe and North America turned into one continent (Laurasia) and South America, Australia, India, Africa and Antarctica (Gondwana) formed another continent. As time passed these giant continents continued to detach and form the land masses of today. During this period large amounts of mountains were formed on the Americas, which caused a movement that made North Africa split from Europe. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Apex predators</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>An apex predator is a predator at the top of the food chain and has no natural predators. As the archosaurs became dominant  they developed and became predators. The terrestrial apex predators during the triassic were an extinct group of archosaurs, the Rauisuchians, they resembled dinosaurs in a way that has costed them to be mistaken for dinosaurs ancestors or actual dinosaurs. Mostly known rauisuchids are the Saurosuchus and the Postosuchus these reptiles had big heads, sharp teeth, long hind legs and scales on their backs. They had an upright stance. Another group of Carnivorous archosaurus were the Prestosuchidae, a very large terrestrial apex predator that could become from 2,5 to 7 meters long. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Fossil records</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There is a great fossil record from the triassic period especially for many groups of archosaurs there are fossil records from about 245 million years ago which is just after the great extincion. In the fossil records several different groups of archosaurs can be found some have living descendants today. In the records hippo-size beaked herbivores like Rhynchosaurs and longed necked reptiles as Prolacertiforms can be found. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Environment </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The triassic period of 50 million years was a turning point of the evolutionary tale of life. This was a time of tremendous change and renewal. New ecological niches, new creatures and corals meant large environmental changes for the Pangaea. When life emerged from the oceans and animal life began to transform. Although insects and plants did not go through a huge evolution because of the dry climate large parts of Pangaea was desert. In the coastal areas mosses and ferns survived and in the higher areas forests began to recover from the Permian death. A large amount of animals appeared, such as frogs, turtles, snakes and flying reptiles. Spiders and scorpions thrived. The food chain was extended from the bottom, with microscopic phytoplankton to the meat eating dinosaurs. Large parts of the food chain still exists today. Perhaps the largest change for life on earth came with the evolution of the dinosaurs and the mammals, which again changed when the Triassic period ended as it began, with a volcanic eruption or an asteroid collision causing another mass extinction. The dinosaurs survived and was the beginning of the Jurassic era. </div>]]></description>
