In the story Narcissus he was very unfair and selfish. Echo one of the main characters and was a nymph. Echo was very talkative. So in the beginning of the story Hera put a spell on Echo. The spell was that she could only repeat what people said and after they said it. Although sometimes Echo would cut out part of the sentence. Echo saw Narcissus one day and immediately fell in love. Echo was stalking Narcissus because she couldn't say anything to him. Once Narcissus got lost and he called out to see if anyone was around. Echo answered him but he found that she was stalking him and quickly ran and was very rude to Echo. Echo died because her heart was broken. Narcissus fell in love with himself because hurting Echo and then also died. I think the theme of the story is to not judge too quickly. Narcissus immediately thought the worst of Echo and didn't even give her a chance. Echo couldn't help that she couldn't talk and fell in love with him. Narcissus thought that Echo was some crazy person but he didn't even know her.

15 minutes
pages: 109-117

So far I really like the book Stella by Starlight. I think it is really enjoyable to read and I can focus a lot when reading it so that means it's a really good book. First in the chapter Stella and her family went to church. Stella's pastor is wise because, he was telling the people to not be afraid of the Klan. The pastor told the people that the Klan would know if the people were scared and that would give the Klan an advantage. After leaving church the election is coming up and none of the black people are registered to vote. The pastor told them to come register to vote. In the buggy Stella asked her father if he was going to register. Stella's father doesn't know if he is going to register but I think he will because through the whole book he has been brave. At the end of the day Stella sat down to write and she started to write about trees and she used stuff from the sermon in her writing. I'm predicting that Stella's writing is going to get better throughout the book.

20 minutes
pages: 117-132

In my last response I talked about how the dad was going to possibly register to vote. I thought that the dad was going to register and I was correct. Also the dad asked Stella to go with him to register for voting. Stella was in shock when her dad asked her to go with him. I think that this is very important to Stella because the book said that Stella never went anywhere with just her and her dad. Stella seems to look up to her dad a lot because he seems very brave and smart. Stella's dad gave her very good advice, he was basically saying that "good writers care enough to try". Stella tries really hard when writing. She wants it to be perfect so, I think this is perfect to tell her because that means she is a good writer. Finally my last thoughts on reading this section is about the dad's granny. Stella's dad used to like to write. He remembered a poem from when his granny died. The poem was very elaborate with memories. I think the poem was so detailed because since the granny passed he wanted to remember every detail. Personally I know that when someone passes you remember more of the memory since they are gone because it is more special.

15 minutes
pages:147-158

In Stella by Starlight the three black men that went to register to vote had to take a test. The guy that was supposed to grade the test said come back in a week to find out. Instead of coming back in a week the three men fought for what was right and didn't leave until their tests were graded. White people didn't have to do any of this. All three men passed and that was a very risky and bold move of them to make knowing they could get in a lot of trouble for staying. When coming home Stella's dad told her a story, it was about him enlisting for the army. Although he was first in line he wasn't allowed to be in the army because he was black so they sent him home and enlisted a white man. Stella wrote this story down in her notebook willingly. This is the first time Stella wrote in her notebook not being forced to. I am curious to know why this story was so special to her that she wrote it in her notebook.
