When students are able to utilize the process skills when reading the rich content that social studies text contains, the students are able to understand the structure and purpose of the text and focus on the specific content it is conveying. Just like in reading, students encounter various structures, vocabulary/signal words that help them determine the type of thinking that is required to process the infomation in front of them. Students see these skills in all aspects of their academic journey. If used, processing skills help students to have a deeper understanding of the skill they're learning/applying.
