The boy wondered who the lorax was and where he went, when he saw the once-ler's house. He was the only one who knew what was wrong with the lorax, and for him to tell you, you had to pay 15 cents, a nail and a shell. If you paid, the once-ler will tell you the story of the lorax.

The lorax told him that no one was going to buy him such a thing, to which a well-dressed man bought it for him and once-ler mocked him. Once-ler hadn't seen the lorax for a few days, but the lorax suddenly appeared and knocked on his door and said that he was the guardian of the forest but so was the Barb-ba-loots. The Bar-ba-loots fed on the fruits that were in the trees, but since there were not so many trees, they no longer had much food so they went in search of another forest. Once-ler didn't care much about this so he continued to cut down trees.

The lorax knocked on the door again and said: my swans can no longer fly because of the smoke from their machines and you can't squawk either because you have smoke in your lungs. The swans flew away and the lorax said that only they knew where to go. The lorax even angrier, complained about the waste caused by the machines and that all the garbage was thrown into the pond where the fish lived, the fish, not having clean water, walked with their fins looking for another place to swim. The once-ler angrily told the lorax that all it does is complain and that it was going to grow and expand, but to which he said that, the last tree was cut down and the once-ler's family, having no more work, he went away. he planted. The lorax with sadness on its face flew away and without seeing it again, an once-ler was gone.

Before leaving, the lorax left a set of stones where it said "unless". Once-ler did not know what that meant to this day, as he told the boy "unless you do something" so he gave him the last remaining tree seed for the boy to plant and so the lorax and the animals they can come back.
