The west African drumming started around 1300 AD from Blacksmiths from the Mandinka people. The instruments that are used vary from rattles, double bells, slit gongs and drums. The music actually has its font changed sound others in the world can play it and understand the notes and rythms. The music plays a ritualistic life in Mali which brings the people together. With the rich history and significance of drums and hand percussion, the drummer and artist playing these instruments continues a tradition that has been handed down for generations and one that has crossed oceans to become a huge part of music today. The drums of Africa have some of the most interesting and unique designs and history that have stood the test of time, while evolving into more modern instruments that encouraged the diversity of music and the rhythms heard today.
